From its previous June 15, 2018 release date, the playdate on theaters of “Toy Story 4” was pushed back by over a year as it swapped places with “The Incredibles 2,” which previously had a June 21, 2019 release date.
Subsequently, there have been rumors saying that there might be a problem with the production of “Toy Story 4” and that fans are starting to get worried.
But Andrew Stanton of Pixar Animation Studios cleared the air of apprehension by explaining why the release date of “Toy Story 4” was pushed back by a year and a week.
He said that they normally work on five to six movies at a time. He pointed out that Pixar learned over time to make films like magnets because they want to be respectful on whether the stories are ready or not.
Stanton added that if they find that they need more time on a certain story to really nail it, they do not hesitate to delay it. But if they find another film on the stove which is going well and it is possible of moving up its release date, they do the swap.
The Pixar Animation Studios executive said that there is really no drama on the swapping of the release dates of “Toy Story 4” and “The Incredibles 2,” they just want to get the stories right.
In other words, the delay in the release date of “Toy Story 4” on global theaters only means that Pixar Animation Studios want the movie to come out really better, reports Tripped Media.
Returning to direct the fourth film
John Lasseter, the director of the original “Toy Story” and “Toy Story 2” will be directing the fourth iteration of the very successful toy movie franchise.
In a recent interview, Lasseter said that he and the production team love the “Toy Story” characters so much that they consider them as a family. He explained that they don’t want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what has been done before.
In effect, Lasseter is saying that “Toy Story 4” is bound to surpass “Toy Story 3” and its two previous films in terms of storylines but it remains to be seen if it does better at the box office than all of the three previous movies.
“Toy Story 4” will open a new chapter in the lives of Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the “Toy Story” gang. The story was dreamt up by Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter and Lee Unkrich, the storytellers who have been the driving force behind all three “Toy Story” films. The film is written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack.
It was actually Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger who announced as early as 2014 that “Toy Story 4” is a go and that John Lasseter will be returning to direct the fourth movie in the successful animated film franchise, notes Us Weekly.
A top-grossing film
The first “Toy Story” premiered in 1995. Five years later, “Toy Story 2” came out. “Toy Story 3” was released in 2010 and became Pixar’s highest-grossing film ever, raking in $1.1 billion in the global box office.
It can be recalled that “Toy Story 3” ended Woody and Buzz’s story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, Lasseter and his team never even talked about doing another “Toy Story” movie.
But when Andrew, Pete, Lee, and he came up with a new idea, they just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting for John that he knew they had to make the movie and he wanted to direct it himself.
When “Toy Story 3” was released to global theaters, the ending showed that Andy, the boy who owns Woody and Buzz and all the other toys, has already grown up and decided to give his toys to a young girl as he goes off to college.
