Tom Corbett may have made a good impression as the governor of Pennsylvania for the last four years, but that’s not his original home – and now, after his term in the office is over, the former governor has announced that he’s going back to Pittsburgh. This was revealed shortly after Tom Wolf was sworn in as the new, 47th governor, on Tuesday. Corbett has apparently been planning for the event for quite some time now, although he hasn’t decided exactly what he wants to do with his newfound free time.
According to the former governor, his current plan is to just take his time and relax with his family, and after that he’s going to decide what he’s going to do next. He currently has grandchildren that he has to take care of, and that’s apparently his primary focus at the moment. He wants to get to Pittsburgh as quickly as possible and set up his new life there, as he hasn’t visited in over 10 years, and has a lot of work to get done before he can resume living in the area.
Tom Corbett actually has a pretty long history with Pennsylvania, as he was previously the Attorney General of the state for six years, from 2005 to 2011, after which he became governor. He’s stated that he currently needs some time to recoup, as a lot has been going on in his life. According to his account, his days have been really hectic over the last ten years, especially during his time as governor, and he has been running on practically very little sleep in order to make sure that all of his tasks get done.
He has already been propositioned for future jobs, apparently, and some of the offers have come from former colleagues as well as various law schools that are interested in having him on board. Several organizations in Washington DC have also expressed an interest in working with Corbett, though he hasn’t stated where his interests lie at the moment. He stated that he does see a possible opportunity in Washington, and is confident that he would make it there thanks to all the connections he has managed to establish over the years, although he’s not confident that this is where he wants to work exactly.
On the other hand, he’s also definitely not ready to retire either, and it seems that the former governor still has some dedication to his job left, and is willing to put a little more effort into his work to truly be remembered as a politician who made some changes. According to some, he’s already reached that point – but if he can put even more effort into it, why not?
