It’s still possible that we’ll get to explore other areas in the future, but if that happens it will be implemented as additional content for the game, and we are not sure how this will be distributed to players. It’s not unlikely that Ubisoft will try to monetize the title as much as possible if it ends up successful.
Given the fact that there have been various problems with Ubisoft’s projects over the last few years, from “Assassin’s Creed” to newer titles like “Watch Dogs”, they are in a very difficult position right now and will need to fully focus on their work on this title if they want to make it truly successful.
“The Division” has a great potential and it’s obvious that many people would be willing to give the game a try despite the past developments around Ubisoft, so the studio should make the most from this opportunity.
If it turns out that the initial release is disappointing and fails to live up to the hype that Ubisoft have generated for the game, this could send the studio on its way out of the mainstream gaming scene. The trust and patience of gamers are notoriously low, and the studio could face a lot of trouble if this release doesn’t restore the trust of gamers in their work, possibly even affecting their future developments in other franchises as well.
