“Assassin’s Creed” is probably the best example of this, as the franchise went through a lot of trouble during its lifetime, and it eventually reached a situation where players are very careful about investing in another game, and are waiting for reviews to come out before committing to a new release more strongly.
This was made even worse by the fact that the games started coming out too fast, and there didn’t seem to be much in the way of changes and additions to their gameplay other than a new coat of paint on the scenery.
“Watch_Dogs” was also met with mixed reception, as the game wasn’t quite what it was hyped up to be, and it was actually seen as a disappointment by some players who expected a massive, open-world experience full of adventure, opportunity and character development.
At the moment, people are very excited for “The Division” on one hand, but on the other they are also treating the game with more caution and waiting to see what it will actually look like before deciding to make a move with it. Ubisoft seem to be aware of this too, judging by the way they have been approaching the marketing for the game, and it will be interesting to see where this all ends up and how the situation concludes.
