Ubisoft just can’t seem to catch a break with leaks these days, as the studio suffered from another similar issue recently, this time related to “Tom Clancy’s The Division”. Details of the game have been under heavy speculation for quite some time now, and fans had little to go by as the studio was putting a lot of effort into keeping the game under wraps. However, a trailer for it was leaked prematurely, and was subsequently released by the studio itself.
There wasn’t much sense in trying to keep it hidden at this point anyway, as the video was already spreading through the Internet like wildfire, and many claimed that it would actually harm the studio more than it would benefit them to keep it concealed after it generated so much hype about the game. And in any case, the trailer showed some pretty good things and raised people’s confidence in “The Division”, something which the game definitely needed recently as it was arguably suffering in the eyes of fans.
But according to many, that was precisely because people didn’t know what to think and mostly had to trust various rumors that were going around, and many of those weren’t very positive at all. There were some claims that the game would have to be graphically downgraded in order to meet the schedule of the studio, and on the other hand some fans were worried if the gameplay would actually work like it was shown in the trailers we saw before.
The most recent trailer took viewers on a tour through the game’s world and some of its special mechanics, including safe zones that will basically be the towns/settlements in this title, and there will also be opportunities for players to interact with NPCs that provide them with quests, much like in a standard RPG. In addition, we got to see glimpses of the combat of the title and how that would work, with different types of weapons previewed as well as some kinds of modifications.
All in all, what we saw in that video brought up the confidence of players significantly, and many are now convinced that this game will be worth the time and money once it’s released. Ubisoft seem to be preparing something really nice behind their scenes, and this game has a real potential to shake up the gaming world when it comes out, even if it doesn’t actually have all features that have been advertised in the trailers so far.
That’s actually something players have been wondering about, as in some cases it doesn’t seem very clear what part of those trailers is actual gameplay and when they are more cinematic. But regardless, they show something that looks like it was made with a lot of taste and attention to detail, not just in the graphics department but also in how the game plays and generally feels. This can be a truly immersive experience when it arrives.
Players are more cautious though, as no matter how good the trailers might look, it’s still an Ubisoft title, and that carries certain expectations with it that are not entirely positive. Indeed, the studio might be capable of producing good titles, but they also suffer from some problems that are quite typical of companies looking to get a lot of money for their products and borderline exploiting their franchises. Gamers have been critical of their approach in some regards, particularly with some of their series.
