More than a month after the series finale of the American psychological thriller drama TV series “Revenge” was aired on ABC on May 10, fans of the show were still talking about it – about how satisfying the ending was or even dissecting some of the key points of the final episode of the series.
Fans know that there would no longer be a Season 5 of “Revenge” so those who can’t move on from that yet would like to chew on it some more by still talking about it.
The title of the 23rd and final episode of “Revenge” Season 4 was ‘Two Graves’ and fans and viewers were actually guessing before the start of the show that there will be two deaths in the end, thinking that it will be Victoria as the series’ main antagonist and perhaps Amanda or Emily as the protagonist.
That almost happened especially when Victoria, who was quite deliciously portrayed by Madeleine Stowe during the entire four seasons of the series, shot Amanda in the back as her final act before dying.
But Amanda survived and it was shown after some months later that it was her father David who died of natural cause and not of anything related to a post-death revenge of Victoria as she and Charlotte was shown visiting his grave in a cemetery. It can be recalled that it was David who shot Victoria and not Amanda.
A closer look at the episode title
It turns out that the “Two Graves” in the title of the 23rd and final episode of Season 4 and the show itself was taken from a quote from Confucius which said: ‘Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.’
Amanda even mentioned it during one of the final scenes of “Revenge” that aired on May 10. She realized that Confucius was right because the second of the two graves was actually meant for her and her father’s infinite love just saved her from taking her spot on the ground, notes Melty.
Nolan Ross, who has helped her during her plotting and scheming against Victoria, wondered about his life after but Amanda assured her that he will still have a purpose.
Towards the end, it was shown that Nolan walked Amanda down the aisle as she marries Jack before they sail off to the sunset.
In retrospect, Amanda realized that there is no happy ending in revenge but karma has spared her from taking the fall.
