Chris Hemsworth, the actor who plays the Marvel superhero, Thor, has said after the second Thor movie entitled “Thor: Dark World,” released in October 2013, that he wants the third installment to be light hearted and wants the film to provide more laughs.
Apparently, that is the advantage that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) enjoys over the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) – the former has lighter approach compared to the so-called Snyder-y darker style of DC films, in reference to Director Zack Snyder.
It is very evident in the “Iron Man” trilogy, “Ant-Man,” and the upcoming “Spider-Man: Homecoming” that there are plenty of comic reliefs even though the overall plotlines are serious in nature.
Such are the things that endear Marvel movies to fans, particularly to the young ones and also a good number of those who are young at heart.
It seems that the Australian actor also wants to have the same in “Thor: Ragnarok” which is due to hit theaters in November next year.
Hemsworth’s wish got a boost when Director Alan Taylor, who helmed the first two “Thor” movies, which are obviously darker than the usual tone of Marvel movies, was replaced by New Zealand Director Taika Waititi, reports Screen Crush.
Director Waititi is the director behind the cult comedy “What Do We Do in the Shadows” as well as the upcoming comedy “The Hunt for the Wilderpeople.”
He has been described as a cross between Wes Anderson and Edgar Wright and his comedic sensibilities fit so well with the desire of Chris Hemsworth for “Thor 3.”
Why Thor sat out ‘Captain America: Civil War’
In a recent interview, Director Taika Waititi explained why Thor sat out “Captain America: Civil War” when the 13th movie of the MCU was shown in theaters in May this year.
He said that the Norse god took time off to live with Daryl, a white collar schlub.
In the short mockumentary shown during the ComicCon, it showed the character enjoying his mundane life in Australia while the rest of the Avengers tear themselves apart, notes iDigital Times.
Actually, Thor and the Hulk were not in the movie and the two of them will be featured in the upcoming third “Thor” film.
Waititi said that fans could probably see Daryl again. There may be other little pieces of that thing that everyone saw that may just be a small part of a bigger thing.
In a recent interview, Mark Ruffalo, who plays the Hulk in the MCU, says that “Thor: Ragnarok” unites Thor and the Hulk for a universal road movie.
From previous reports that “Thor 3” could be the darkest Marvel movie yet, it seems that Waititi’s flair for comedy has transformed it into something else entirely.
Facing a game-changer in Asgard
While Thor was not around in “Captain America: Civil War” when it was shown in May this year, Marvel Studios made up for it when he appeared during the post-credit scene of “Doctor Strange.”
Apparently, Marvel Studios is already setting the stage for the plotline of “Thor 3” which is officially titled “Thor: Ragnarok” after it was shown that Loki was helping to find Thor’s father in the short scene.
While Loki has been Thor’s nemesis during the first two movies, his half-brother would get help from Hela who is known for her magnificent magic. In fact, some are regarding her as a game-changer in Asgard which could tilt the balance between good and evil.
Hela has been chosen by Odin to become the Goddess of Death and she was chosen to guard Hel and Niffelheim but she was never contented of the realm that was given her. Unfortunately, Thor cut short his plan so she decided on conquering the afterlife world instead known as Valhalla.
