His wife got robbed, and he went through hospitalization. He should feel good to know that St. Louis Washington University is now offering a class dedicated to his extensive body of work, under its Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies department. The class is named, ‘Politics of Kanye West: Black Genius and Sonic Aesthetics.’
Professor Jeffrey McCune said that he always wanted to teach a course which looks at black genius and the impossibility of Black Genius for American Public. According to him, they are always thought of as being smart or articulate but never geniuses.
The class will not be praising or criticizing the artist, but instead, it will focus on an in-depth analysis of the artist’s public image. It will focus on his relationship with Taylor Swift, ‘hip-hop queer love languages’ along with listening sessions. For Kanye West, the past year was a pretty big one.
He released his seventh studio album, unveiled his new fashion line Yeezy Season 4. After that, he initiated and then canceled his US Tour. Overall, he has been pretty active.
However, some of the more interesting moments didn’t have anything to do with his career. His entire time under the spotlight was spent on dealing with politics which he claims to hate. The class will try to look at politics, gender, race, sexuality and culture, all through his actions and the larger implications on American culture, associated with it.
Stay tuned for more updates on Kanye West!
