There was almost no doubt about the potential of the production getting continued, and now we’ve heard some interesting reports about the producers’ plans for season 2.
The show follows the life of Jude Law’s character, Pope Pius XIII, the youngest pope in history (as the show’s title implies). Despite many people doubting him, and having to work in an unusual situation, he manages to prove that he has lots of interesting ideas on his mind, and he’s ready to work hard to prove he deserves to carry the title.
Reports about season 2 indicate that the Pope is going to have to deal with even more temptation and the peculiar state of his mind, and he will battle some surprising demons that few people around him are aware of. It’s interesting how his character has been portrayed so far, and many viewers and critics have commented that he’s not exactly the type of personality they envision in a Pope – but in a good way.
Speaking of fans and critics, opinions about the first season have been mostly positive so far, and it’s clear that the show has managed to win over the hearts of a large number of viewers. Interestingly enough, it even seems popular among people who are not religious at all, as it gives them an insight into the world of religion that they are so unfamiliar with.
Has the show managed to change any views on religion for good though? It’s hard to tell, but it does look like the producers are trying to bring attention to the importance of religion in our modern society, and the extent of the power of a person like the Pope.

Official reports about the second season are quite scarce at the moment though, and the show is actually surrounded by a lot of speculation and uncertainty. It doesn’t help that it’s getting a separate launch in January, which has led to some confusion among viewers. We trust that the producers will find a way to sort out the messy situation soon enough though, and we also expect to hear some reports about their plans for the show’s future early in January.
Should they change anything in the structure of “The Young Pope” at the moment? It doesn’t seem like the show is in need of any serious changes, at least judging by the discussions in the community.
There does seem to be a group of fans interested in seeing the idea of the Pope being tempted more often, but we don’t think the producers would actually go that far with that theme in season 2. It’s a risky move for them to touch it even briefly, as the show can get controversial very fast if they’re not careful.
