‘The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’ Does Not Support the 4K Feature of the PlayStation 4 Pro and CD Projekt Cannot Address It Just Yet

Sony has recently launched two improved versions of the PlayStation 4, the PS4 Pro and the PS4 Neo which would officially make it to the retail markets in November this year.

The PS4 Pro appears to be the high-end variant of the PlayStation 4 highlighted by its 4K resolution feature among others.

CD Projekt Red, the Polish game developer of the critically-acclaimed role-playing game “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” recently stated that it will not be issuing a patch for the game to support Sony’s PS4 Pro specifically the console’s 4K resolution feature.

The announcement disappointed a lot of PlayStation 4 gamers, many of whom are planning to migrate to the better PS4 Pro sooner or later. It came as a bit of surprise to them since CD Projekt Red supports the 4K feature of the game on the PC platform.

CD Projekt Red explains that it is a bit too much for them to work on three projects at the same time. The game developer is reportedly working on “Cyberpunk 2077” and “Gwent.” While it has the capability to upgrade the game and make it compatible with the 4K feature of the PS4 Pro, the conversion process shall be taking too much of its time and also its resources.

It added that converting the game to 4K for the PS4 Pro is just half of the work because the bigger challenge is developing the details of the game’s world. CD Projekt Red would still need to adjust the environment of the game to make it compatible with the 4K feature of the PS4 Pro, details Game & Guide.

Not going to be part of PS4 Pro game library

“The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” was rumored to be one of the games included in the PS4 Pro console but it seems unlikely that the game would be part of its library.

The position of CD Projekt Red was also seconded by Digital Foundry spokesperson Tom Morgan who said that upgrading the game to 4K resolution for the PS4 Pro will also require that the game’s world must also look good enough to upgrade, cites iTech Post.

The PS4 Pro will be hitting the video gaming market on November 10 with a retail price tag of $400. The high-profile game that seemed to have been greenlighted for the PS4 Pro is the first-person shooter video game from Activision “Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.”

In addition, most of the upcoming PlayStation 4 games starting in October will have 4K support so they would likely form part of the library of the PS4 Pro.

A special collectors’ item for the game

As a critically-acclaimed role-playing game for two years running, “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” has drawn some of the most avid gamers in the international video gaming industry that most of them would like nothing but a collectors’ items featuring the game’s main protagonist Geralt of Rivia.

Polish game developer CD Projekt Red responded positively to the idea so it made its move first in its home country.

Last week, it was announced that Geralt of Rivia will be featured on an official postage stamp in the country. A few days ago, CD Projekt Red said that it would release a 26-inch statue of Geralt of Rivia made of high-quality translucent resin at a premium price of $770.

Its price is a bit on the stiff side but it shall feature very accurate details of the hero of “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” including a life-like skin effect.

It would be a perfect recreation of the game hero and it would come out in limited supplies initially. Prime 1 Studio, which is manufacturing the statue, would produce only 1,000 pieces of the collectors’ item showcasing Geralt of Rivia standing on the head of an enemy creature that got in his way.

But a second version, featuring a switchable head, will be limited to 500 pieces. Just like the first, the second version shall cost $770.

The first item that was released by Prime 1 Studios is a prototype design only for now so it is possible that improvements and changes could be adopted before the statue formally makes it in the market anytime from July to September next year.
