The open world role-playing game “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” made by Polish game developer CD Projekt Red is one of the most critically-acclaimed video game releases of 2015.
Despite being a massive game filled with various types of quests, none of the elements were felt forced or incorporated just to suit the whims of the development team. Instead, the game offers a vast insight into witcher Geralt of Rivia and the world around him, details Stevivor.
However, despite being an excellent game, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, principal narrative designer of CD Projekt Red, says that they could have developed “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” better.
Tomaszkiewicz pointed out that in the main game, there were a few quests that felt padded, the fetch quests in particular. He explained that the fetch quests were in the game because the development team stuck with the ideas that they should not have at all.
Having learned their lesson from the base game, they decided to correct their flaws and oversights on “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” with the first DLC expansion pack titled “Hearts of Stone” which was released last month, discloses Tomaszkiewicz.
Ideas that felt right and natural to the game
The CD Projekt Red designer said that they came up with the right ideas in the “Hearts of Stone” DLC expansion pack. He added that they spent more time coming up with ideas from scratch, which mostly felt right and natural. They did not add anything simply to make something else make sense like another quest.
Tomaszkiewicz also cited another flaw that was corrected by the “Hearts of Stone” DLC expansion pack. Although there is no true antagonist in the new content, the character that served as the antagonist actually got a lot more screen time compared to “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.”
He said that the development team has already realized the mistake when they were through with “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” so it was kind of too late to fix the problem. They decided to make up for it instead in the “Hearts of Stone.”
As far as gamers are concerned, “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” is already an excellent game that was even made perfect by the “Hearts of Stone” DLC expansion pack. But as far as CD Project Red is concerned, the first DLC allowed them to correct the mistakes of the base game. They have another chance at game refinement as a second expansion pack is set to be released next year.
Bringing home the bacon
As a proof of how excellent and critically-acclaimed a video game “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” is, the CD Projekt Red’s latest masterpiece has bagged five of the total of 25 awards handed out during the recent Golden Joysticks Award 2015.
“The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” was cited for Best Storytelling, Best Visual Design, Best Gaming Moment – the Bloody Baron quest, Studio of the Year for CD Projekt Red, and Game of the Year, details Gamepad Project.
The awards were determined by the organizer through public voting of over nine million gamers held at the indigO2 event at London’s O2 Arena that was hosted by Danny Wallace.
Meanwhile, gaming experts call the latest expansion pack of “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” as the most meaningful downloadable content to come by without the gamers feeling exploited at all.
Apparently, the “Hearts of Stone” DLC expansion pack lets gamers choose their own way through an adventure that includes recruiting a crew of break-in artists, spending a night partying with a ghost, and outsmarting the most bizarre creatures witcher Geralt of Rivia has ever encountered.
CD Projekt Red explained on the expansion pack synopsis that the game features the adventures of Geralt and his supernatural conflict with the mystical creatures. Overall, it is going to be a new thrill for players to look forward to on the game.
