More than a year after it was released on the gaming consoles and the PC, the critically-acclaimed role-playing game “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” is still piling in the honors.
During the recent 2016 Games Awards held in Los Angeles, California, the expansion pack of “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” entitled “Blood and Wine” won the Best Role-Playing Game award, which was surprising in a way, since it was merely a DLC and not a full game.
But then, because of the vastness of the expansion pack, it was considered as a full game in itself and was thus qualified for the nomination and the eventual award.
Two weeks before the 2016 Games Awards, “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” “Blood and Wine” DLC also won the awards for Best Storytelling and Best Visual Design at the Golden Joystick Awards, reports the game’s website.
In the same awarding rites, Doug Cockle, who lent his voice to game protagonist Geralt of Rivia in the English localization of the game, also won the award for Best Gaming Performance while Polish game developer DC Projekt Red was given the prestigious honor of being the Studio of the Year.
A mind-blowing accomplishment
In his message at the 2016 Games Awards, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, game director of CD Projekt Red explained that back in the day when games were distributed mainly on CDs, it was popular to release so-called add-on discs.
He added that they were often multi-hour adventures that required a serious amount of work to be created, and contained new features that significantly influenced gameplay.
Tomaszkiewicz went on to elaborate that when they decided to bring that way of thinking back with the “Blood and Wine” DLC, they know it is going to be great.
He also knew that they hit it right on the spot when the expansion pack was nominated for the 2016 Games Awards. But when the DLC won the award, Tomaszkiewicz described it as simply mind-blowing.
Major discounts on Steam’s Winter Sale 2016
There are reports saying that “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” may be among the games that will have a major discount in the ongoing Winter Sale 2016 of Steam.
While American game developer Valve Corporation has not yet confirmed it, there are rumors saying that the Steam Holiday 2016 will begin on December 22 and end on January 2 next year.
The start of the Steam Holiday 2016 shall usher the beginning of the Steam Holiday Sale 2016, which is basically a continuation of the Winter Sale 2016 that reportedly began on December 2.
The Steam Winter Sale 2016 is the biggest sale offered by Valve, bringing huge discounts to popular game titles.
At the moment, there is no information on which games will be offered on this year’s Steam Holiday 2016, but it’s expected to be big, considering that a lot of awesome game titles have been released this year, reports Game & Guide.
Incidentally, “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” is set in a nightmarish fantasy world where assassins rub shoulders with undead monsters and mythical beasts.
It picked up where PC classics like “Ultima VII” left off, offering the player a vast and highly detailed world and allowing them to tackle it in whatever manner they see fit.
Gamers can lose themselves for hours in the lush countryside, or seek out adventure and side-quests in order to raise their experience and gain gold. Or, if they prefer, simply stick to the main story, which involves the titular Wild Hunt and its sinister quest.
Critics have been in consensus in describing “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” as a truly remarkable role-playing game which raises the bar for the genre.
Meanwhile, the upcoming spin-off “Gwent: The Witcher Card Game” will be more “Heartstone” than “Pokemon Go” say critics because it does not have any trolling or nagging.
The card game has had its closed beta in October and reports have it that it will run up to spring next year before it finally comes out.
