The new DLC for “The Witcher 3”, titled “Blood and Wine” is coming soon, but we still don’t have much information about the new content. CD Projekt RED are keeping quiet – as usual – but certain details have been making their way through the cracks and have recently surfaced. From what we’ve been able to tell so far, it looks like the new update is going to bring some entertaining moments to the game, including songs and poetry.
The information seems to mostly be coming from one source so far – a translator who has worked on the Czech localization for the upcoming DLC. The person wasn’t able to go in too much detail about the new features that CD Projekt RED have planned for “Blood and Wine”, but he did explain that he has faced some serious difficulties trying to preserve the original humor and overall tone of the conversations that he was working on.
On the other hand, the translator admitted that previous works by the same studio have proven more challenging to him, so “Blood and Wine” might not be that complex in its dialogues and quest lines. It does sound like the new DLC is mostly aimed at bringing a lighthearted, artsy feel to the game, which will be interesting to see considering its generally gritty and bloody nature.
But of course, most fans don’t expect that the DLC will be all fun and sunshine, and there will most certainly be elements of brutality and conspiracy in the stories that are about to unfold. After all, this is “The Witcher”, a franchise that built its name on some rather controversial ideas.
The studio has been handling the game very well since its release, and the trust that they’ve managed to build with their fans seems to be getting even stronger. Many see CD Projekt RED as one of the few developers on the modern market that actually care about pleasing their customers and aren’t all about milking their franchises for as long as possible, and the studio has been hard at work maintaining that image and keeping everyone pleased.
Part of the reason why fans are always so excited about new DLC for “The Witcher” is that the developers like to introduce entire new gameplay elements to the mix instead of just expanding the story. For example, “Blood and Wine” is rumored to come with a variety of new monsters, areas to explore, as well as of course new items to play around with. If the current rumors are true, players should be able to get as much playtime out of the DLC as a regular AAA game, which says a lot.
This is certainly a refreshing situation in the context of the current trend of many studios releasing DLC that’s almost entirely cosmetic, hoping to squeeze a few extra dollars out of their fans. The situation can be even worse in online games where players are allowed to purchase an advantage over others.
Considering that “Blood and Wine” is supposed to close the story of Geralt, fans are hoping that the DLC will leave things off on a positive note. It would be entirely in the style of CD Projekt RED to leave things on a major cliffhanger, possibly even one with a negative undertone, but if they are listening to the wishes of their fans they most probably would not go that way.
