‘The Winds of Winter’ Author Offended by Rumors that the Sixth Book is Going to be the Last for His Fantasy Novel Series!

People can call him a slow writer or whatever else they want, but they certainly cannot say that critically-acclaimed author George R.R. Martin will renege on his promise and cut short his seven-book fantasy novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire.”

Reports have it that George Martin was offended with rumors that his upcoming sixth book “The Winds of Winter” would serve as the last for his popular fantasy novel series.

On the contrary, Martin said that there is no truth to the rumors and that “The Winds of Winter” is not going to be the last for the fantasy novel series as there is going to be a seventh and final book entitled “A Dream of Spring.”

The speculations about “The Winds of Winter” becoming the last for the fantasy novel series emanated after the Season 6 finale of “Game of Thrones” that aired on HBO on June 27.

Critics believe that the TV series shall have two more seasons to wrap up the major storylines of “Game of Thrones” and some also believe that the storylines in the remaining two seasons can already be covered by “The Winds of Winter,” which has yet to be released.

Determined to deliver two books

However, there are reports now saying that George Martin is determined to deliver two more books to wrap up the saga of “A Song of Ice and Fire,” notes the Parent Herald.

In fact, he is not just looking at completing the two remaining books of his fantasy novel series, he is contemplating of writing more books related to the novel.

Latest reports have it that “The Winds of Winter” will finally be released before the Season 7 premiere of “Game of Thrones” on HBO, which gives fans and readers between now until April next year to guess the release date of the book.

There are rumors saying that George Martin has already completed writing the book but has not yet released the book for whatever reasons, notes the Christian Times.

It was understandable why he may have withheld the release of the book during the Season 6 run of “Game of Thrones” on HBO in order not to become the ultimate source of spoilers for the TV series but continuing to keep it under wraps until this day means that he must be thinking something else.

Envious of Stephen King’s writing pace

George Martin has recently sat down and certainly picked up a thing or two from prolific horror writer Stephen King in as far as speed writing is concerned.

Given the delay in the release of “The Winds of Winter,” the sixth book of his fantasy novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire,” Martin needed all the help and pep talk that he could get to help him speed things up a bit.

The two bestselling authors were at the Kiva Theater in Albuquerque, New Mexico on June 16 where Martin interviewed King for his “End of Watch” book tour.

Basically, their conversation centered on their respective writing speeds. Martin asked King how comes he writes so fast. Martin said that he could churn out only three chapters in six months whereas Stephen King can write three books in the same period of time.

King says that he writes almost every day and demands six pages a day from himself. George was so amazed by the daily output of Stephen and asked the author if he never gets constipated doing so.

Martin then said in jest that maybe he does not have any talent and should have been a plumber instead, much to the delight of the audience.

The Winds of Winter

The rumors about the release date of “The Winds of Winter” are consistent in saying that it shall come out before Season 7 of “Game of Thrones” returns to HBO in April of next year.

It seems like it was intentional on the part of Martin and the showrunners to delay the release of “The Winds of Winter” as it shall provide plenty of spoilers for “Game of Thrones” that TV viewing would not be as exciting as it is now for the just concluded Season 6.
