‘The Winds of Winter’ Author George R.R. Martin Gives a Glimpse of the Important Roles of Euron and Aeron Greyjoy in the Novel!

Since last month, critically-acclaimed author George R.R. Martin has been releasing excerpts from “The Winds of Winter,” the sixth book of his popular fantasy novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire.”

Early last month, Martin released an excerpt of the book featuring Arianne Martell from Dorne. Then during the Balticon held on May 29, he shared another chapter that focuses on Aeron Greyjoy.

For fans of “Game of Thrones,” the Greyjoys are synonymous to the Iron Islands and the familiar characters from the place are Theon, Yara, and their father Balon. However, it can be recalled that Balon Greyjoy was killed early in Season 6 by his returning brother Euron Greyjoy.

Euron eventually laid claim as the rightful leader of the Iron Isles, even as Theon and Yara escaped an expected persecution from their uncle during the fifth episode of Season 6 of “Game of Thrones” aired on HBO on May 23.

In “The Winds of Winter,” George Martin has revealed that Balon and Euron have two more brothers and one of them is Aeron Greyjoy. After killing his two brothers including Balon, Euron sought out to do the same and kill Aeron, as he sets his sights on the Iron Throne over at King’s Landing, notes the Christian Daily.

In the TV series, Euron plans to build ships and entice Daenerys Targaryen to hook up with him and they will take the Iron Throne together.

Worst than Ramsay

If in the HBO series, Ramsay Bolton, played by Iwan Rheon, is the most despised character of all, in the books, Euron Greyjoy is actually the worst.

During the Balticon, George Martin said that the chapter on Aeron Greyjoy will simply remind everyone that Ramsay Bolton is not the worst character yet.

In the chapter of “The Winds of Winter” he shared during the Balticon entitled “The Forsaken,” Aeron Greyjoy has been revealed to have been locked away in a dungeon by his brother Euron, who has repeatedly abused him over the years, details the Parent Herald.

In the same chapter, Aeron Greyjoy actually wounded up being tied to the prows of Euron Greyjoy’s flagship as his brother sails to King’s Landing and lay his claim to the Iron Throne.

In “Game of Thrones” Season 6, Euron Greyjoy is being played by Pilou Asbaek, and it is not clear if the showrunners will also be introducing Aeron Greyjoy in the four remaining episodes of the season or perhaps in Season 7 next year.

Nearing its release

With the level of confidence of George Martin to share to the public a secret chapter of “The Winds and Winter” during the Balticon, readers and critics are optimistic that the author is already close to finishing his book. It is likely that “The Winds of Winter” will finally come out either late this year or early next year before the start of Season 7 of “Game of Thrones.”

After the author completed reading the excerpt from “The Forsaken” chapter of “The Winds of Winter,” it set off speculations and the rumor mills on the internet have started swirling.

The Winds of Winter

In addition to Euron’s shocking tyranny, he actually raped his brother Aeron when the latter was still a child

The chapter also alluded to Euron’s eventual pact with the Night’s King and the white walkers. Surely, it gave a major glimpse on the character arc of Euron Greyjoy and readers are hoping that the second excerpt from “The Winds of Winter” shall already pave the way for the release of the book very soon.
