With the production for Season 6 of the hit HBO TV series “Game of Thrones” already underway since early last month, it is obvious that book six of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire” titled “The Winds of Winter” is already through.
While the critically-acclaimed author has been saying as of July that he has yet to finish writing the book, looking at the timeline for the TV series, he would just be putting pressure on himself in finishing the seventh book if the sixth book is not yet finished by this time.
Assuming that it is true that Martin has yet to finish writing “The Winds of Winter” by this time, then he only has until the end of the year to complete it. It is imperative that the book comes out before Season 6 of “Game of Thrones” is aired on HBO in April next year.
This means that the book needs to come out in March 2016 at the latest. Martin has to finish writing the book by November or December at the latest because it would take at least two more months to put it on publication and mass production.
If Martin will write until the end of the year to complete “The Winds of Winter,” then immediately thereafter, he should start writing the seventh book titled “A Dream of Spring,” because it would just leave him with less than a year to finish it too.
Those who know the author, one year is too short a timeframe for Martin to finish writing one of his books, but with his experience, it is very possible.
Second guessing
Many fans of the book and the fantasy novel series have actually been second-guessing the author with his pronouncements on social media, looking for possible hints and trying to read between the lines, notes the Inquisitr.
Martin has been saying a few months ago that he skipped attending two major conferences just to finish writing the book.
There were rumors also claiming that a copy of the book has already been given to Director Jonathan Bender of “Game of Thrones” but after a few cover-ups and clarifications, it was later said that the director mistook the series manuscript for the copy of “The Winds of Winter.”
If the series stars and production crew are keeping mum about the details of Season 6 of “Game of Thrones,” that is because opening their mouths would not only spoil the TV series but the sixth book of George R.R. Martin as well.
So the TV series and the book are merely reciprocating each other’s secrecy in order not to reveal too many details and plots and thus preserve the excitement of both viewers and readers.
An obsession of half of the internet
According to iDigital Times, the release date of “The Winds of Winter” has practically become an obsession for half of the internet and there is actually no book in the world that seems to draw so much attention as Martin’s sixth book of his fantasy novel series.
The excitement on the book stems from the fact that “A Song of Ice and Fire” appears to be the best fantasy novel series to date. It is even better than J.R. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings.”
However, all these obsessions about the book and its release date will not make “The Winds of Winter” come out earlier than when George Martin intended it to be.
It all boils down to preserving the excitement and keeping the franchise always fresh with its daily doses of rumors, speculations, unconfirmed reports, and even absurd theories.
While George R.R. Martin remains mum on the exact release date of “The Winds of Winter,” there is a big possibility that the roll out of the book is being calculated so as not to provide too many spoilers on Season 6 of “Game of Thrones.”
