‘The Walking Dead’ Season 7 Showrunner Hints Not Just One But Possibly Two Deaths in the Hands of Negan!

The seventh season of the horror survival drama TV series “The Walking Dead” is set to premiere on AMC on October 23 and all the eyes and ears of the fans are on the identity of the first victim of Negan and his barbed wire-laced baseball named Lucille.

The consensus of the rumors is that it is going to be Glenn who shall take the fall since it is what happened in the comic book source material of “The Walking Dead.” But some skeptics believe that it is part of a trolling effort from the producers to keep the viewers guessing while the TV series is on hiatus.

They actually succeeded towards such end since even after “The Walking Dead” Season 6 wrapped up in March this year, fans and viewers were still talking about it and were all looking forward to the show’s seventh season to find the answer to the cliffhanger left by the TV series during its Season 6 finale.

Based on the speculations after the Season 6 of “The Walking Dead,” the top five characters who made the guessing game in order of likelihood are Glenn, Abraham, Eugene, Michonne, and Daryl.

Last month, Michonne and Daryl were seen filming for the latter episodes of Season 7, which means that not one of them is going to be Negan’s victim.

That trimmed down the ‘contenders’ to three, featuring Glenn, Abraham, and Eugene. Interestingly, not one of the three characters were spotted in any of the subsequent filmings for Season 7.

Two deaths and not just one

Now, latest rumors are saying that Negan shall actually have two victims instead of one as speculated by viewers and critics.

It was actually executive producer Greg Nicotero who hinted of the likelihood when he mentioned in a recent interview the word deaths instead of just death, reports the International Business Times of UK.

In that interview, Nicotero was quoted as saying that he would have still supported doing it the way they did it because the story does not end there. He added that if they have shown the deaths, then they would not have felt the show’s characters in Season 7 the way they need to.

Nicotero added that he thinks that a lot of people will get out of it because it is how the moment changes the entire makeup of the show’s universe within a split second. He explained that it is that moment that launches the entire Season 7 of “The Walking Dead” in that direction.

Why Glenn had to be killed off

Steven Yeun’s Glenn is one of the fan-favorite characters in “The Walking Dead.” He had his near-brush with death at the end of Season 4 when they were about to be slaughtered at the Terminus but the timely intervention of Carol saved him, Rick, Daryl, and another one from being sliced in the throat.

During the third episode of Season 6 last year, he also had his brush with death when he and Nicolas were cornered by the walkers on top of a garbage bin and Nicolas decided to shoot himself in the head. The two of them fell on the swarm of walkers below them that seemed to have feasted on their flesh.

It was four episodes later in Season 6 that viewers discovered that Glenn managed to extricate himself from under Nicolas and crawl underneath the garbage bin and away from the reach of the swarming walkers.

walking dead

But it looks like Glenn already outlived his luck in “The Walking Dead,” and the comic book source material is one solid proof that he is the next important character to go or die.

Glenn is one of the most important characters in “The Walking Dead” since he is one of the regulars who has been with the show since the beginning. He has matured from an immature and reckless kid into one of the most focused leaders in Rick’s group, details the Den of Geek.
