‘The Walking Dead’ Season 5 Series Finale is the Least Suspenseful in the Show’s Five Years, More Details

For “The Walking Dead” fans for the last five years, they were expecting that the series finale of Season 5, which was aired on AMC on March 29, to be a suspense humdinger that the show was noted to feature over its past four seasons.

The all-out suspense of the show’s season normally comes down to the series finale where most questions would be answered, actions unpacked, secrets revealed, and new twists unlocked.

Unfortunately for the series finale of “The Walking Dead” Season 5, it was the least suspenseful among all the five series finales of the show since 2011. The actions and the encounter with the walkers, which is always the highlight of the series, were few and far in between. Worst, there were actually more dialogues uttered during the 90-minute show than a series finale would normally have.

A disappointment

Back in the series finale of Season 4 last year, Rick’s group reached the Terminus only to find out that the people who were running the facility were cannibals and they were all apprehended and detained in a train coach.

Fans were left hanging in suspense back then as to what will happen to Rick’s group, whether they will be eaten by the people at the Terminus or whether they can escape their ordeal while the walkers continue to roam around the facility.

For the series finale of Season 5 however, the creators and writers of the show have remained cyclical with all the actions, consistent actually with what they turned the entire fifth season to be. It was like watching a roller coaster ride that goes up and down in terms of excitement.

The only action highlights for the series finale was the appearance of Morgan who battle two of the so-called mysterious wolves, humans who likes to put the letter ‘W’ on the foreheads of walkers. Then there were the near-death actions and scenes featuring Aaron and Daryl as they were swarmed by walkers who were trapped in several trucks, apparently the handiwork of the wolves. They were eventually rescued by Morgan.

The third highlight would be the battle of Glenn and Nicholas on the woods after Nicholas shot Glenn on the shoulder.

Mostly dialogues

Even Rick, Michonne and Carol, who are all experts in killing walkers, were underutilized during the series finale in terms of action. The only action that Rick got is when he discovered that one of the gates was left open and that a couple of walkers made it inside the Alexandria. He killed a couple of them including one that nearly got him before he splashed all its guts in his face.

So while the people were discussing on what to do with Rick following his gun-pointing on Pete during the previous episode, he came to the meeting along with a dead walker. Pete stormed the meeting later planning to kill Rick but he stabbed Deanna’s husband instead.

Deanna finally gave the go-signal to Rick to kill Pete and he did. That pretty much ended the show as Morgan, Daryl and Aaron arrived shortly for the half-baked ending.

walking dead

There was hardly any question for the viewer left to ask or look forward to for the next season. It was a downer for “The Walking Dead” by its own standards and if it will continue to drag like this for Season 6, it won’t be long before its ratings start plummeting.
