‘The Walking Dead’ Co-creator Files Lawsuit Against AMC Ahead of Show’s Season 7 Premiere, Find Out More

“The Walking Dead” co-creator Frank Darabont is reportedly seeking a huge amount of money for damages in his lawsuit against AMC over the profit of the TV series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the certificate of trial was filed Monday, September 26. The former showrunner and his legal team are seeking a whopping damages verdict in excess of $280 million.

This comes after his deposition in January, in which he alleged there were crisis-level problems on the show. A judge allowed the claim after his initial statement.

Darabont was fired by the network halfway through the show’s second season. He alleges AMC improperly reduced his profit share by not counting his efforts on the show’s second season as being involved all year. AMC has insisted that it honored his contract in a statement.

The co-creator claims that he worked on all episodes of the sophomore season. He was contractually entitled to as much as 10% of the show’s profits after deductions.

Darabont claims that his contract was designed to ensure that the show would never be in the black for profit participants.

The network has responded to Darabont’s lawsuit and says that his claims are baseless and that they will continue to defend the case.

The network claims that Darabont was fired for not holding director’s tone meetings while the latter insists that he was laid off because the budget was cut from $3.3 million to $3 million per episode back in the second season.

Darabont also claims that the network snaffled a tax credit from Georgia for filming in the state but did not provide evidence to prove this claim.

Reports suggest that summary judgment motions should shed more light on the finer details of relations between AMC and Darabont.

Unfortunately, this will be a long ordeal for Darabont and the network as the judge assigned to the case already has her schedule packed for next year.
