The relationship between Stefan and his brother Damon on “The Vampire Diaries” has always been an important part of the show’s theme, and we’ve seen various ups and downs between the two. Lately, Damon has been in trouble and it looks like Stefan is going to take the opportunity to save him, but he might go a bit too far in his brother’s eyes.
As a result, their relationship may end up damaged irreparably, something which could change the tone of the show’s future episodes significantly. It’s not rare to see the brothers arguing, but they usually make up sooner or later.
If the producers really are planning to put such a serious division between them, hopefully they have a long-term plan to make things good and help the brothers get even closer to each other. Otherwise, this could affect the show’s ratings in a pretty negative way, and could cause problems for its survival.
We don’t expect this to actually have a negative impact on the show right now though, at least judging by what fans have been saying about the recent episodes of “The Vampire Diaries”. The way Damon’s downfall has been portrayed has enjoyed positive responses so far, and it was a clever choice by the writers.
And showing Stefan sacrificing something in a last-ditch effort to save his brother could actually make the characters even more interesting in the eyes of their fans. Of course, this all depends on what exactly will end up happening in the new episode, and the synopsis was not clear about that at all.
Which makes perfect sense, as the producers would obviously not want to spoil that part of the episode. On the other hand, the synopsis did contain a peculiar detail which hints towards another mysterious development in the story, so it looks like the producers are being a bit selective in the kinds of spoilers they’re revealing.
They’re clearly trying to steer their fans’ attention in a certain direction, possibly as a distraction from the events surrounding Stefan and Damon. More specifically, we’re going to see Matt dealing with a strange set of messages that have been sent out to him, trying to figure out their source and meaning.
Who knows, this could actually turn out to be related to the developments around Damon, and some fans are apparently even convinced that this is the case, although we wouldn’t be so quick to jump to such conclusions. Plus, if the box of messages did have something to do with Damon’s downfall, it likely wouldn’t have been mentioned so explicitly in the synopsis of the episode.
In any case, most fans seem primarily interested in seeing the continuation of the story about Damon and Stefan, understandably. This development has managed to breathe some fresh life in the show as is evident in its ratings, and that definitely came at the right time. “The Vampire Diaries” has been suffering from poor performance on the screen lately, and some fans were worried that the show might be on its way out at the current rate.
The producers definitely seem determined to keep their work alive though, so there is probably no reason to fear a cancellation at the moment. Even though the ratings could improve a bit, this could easily happen thanks to the developments coming up in the next episodes. We also don’t know what the showrunners’ general plan for the current season is, and what kinds of additional developments they have planned which could change the show’s performance even more.
