Less than a month before the eighth and final season of “The Vampire Diaries” returns on The CW, the latest rumors are saying that actress Nina Dobrev shall indeed return to the American supernatural drama TV series.
While previous reports have been saying that Dobrev will take on the role of Katherine Pierce when she returns to “The Vampire Diaries,” the latest speculations now point out that she would be returning as Elena Gilbert.
But instead of reuniting with Damon Salvatore, played by Ian Somerhalder, Elena shall reportedly be coming back to the arms of her first love in Mystic Falls and it is no other than Stefan Salvatore, played by Paul Wesley, reports iTech Post.
The rumors began when the actor recently posted a photo on his Instagram account featuring a girl that resembles Dobrev. His post was also a confirmation that the actor will also be directing one episode of “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8.
Avid viewers of the popular TV series know that Elena and Stefan were the first to fall in love in Season 1 of “The Vampire Diaries” and Damon was the odd man out as a villain.
However, things took a different turn for the series when both the showrunners and fans noticed that undeniable on-cam spark between Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder. In fact, that on-cam chemistry even blossomed into a real-life romance between the two actors at some point in time.
Fans would be disappointed
In the event that the rumors are true that Elena Gilbert would be reuniting with Stefan instead of Damon, many fans of “The Vampire Diaries” would be disappointed because they believe that ‘Steroline’ is too good to be wasted.
Steroline is Stefan and Caroline, played by Candice King Accola, and their relationship has been very stable in the show. Fans want it to remain until the final episode of “The Vampire Diaries.”
According to the same set of rumors, the reason why Elena shall be getting back together with Stefan is because Damon shall be turning to his dark side once again in the upcoming Season 8.
However, it should be noted that these are just mere speculations and should be taken with a fine grain of salt. Fans would really know the answers to all their questions when “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 returns to The CW on October 21.
Helping Damon return to the light
Amid the rumors of an Elena Gilbert – Stefan Salvatore reunion in the upcoming eighth and final season of the hit TV series, there are still reports insisting that Nina Dobrev’s character shall be reuniting with Ian Somerhalder’s character in the show.
Many are saying that seeing ‘Delena’ happening would be good for the show because it would come at the same time as ‘Steroline,’ reports the Parent Herald.
The showrunners have not confirmed anything regarding the romantic plotlines of “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 but Julie Plec recently stated that Damon would really turn dark in the upcoming season and only Elena shall be able to rescue him to get back to the light again.
Incidentally, there are wild speculations going around that with the impending return of actress Nina Dobrev in “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8, it has reportedly put a strain on the marriage of Ian Somerhalder and his real-life wife, Nikki Reed.
The reports are also saying that there is a good chance that the marriage of Somerhalder and Reed might head to a divorce and that the actor might end up reuniting with Dobrev, who happens to be his former real-life flame.
Critics believe that this new round of rumors is quite similar to those happening between British actor Theo James and his Irish actress fiancé Ruth Kearney because he did a total of four movies with American actress Shailene Woodley.
