Speaking to EW, showrunner Julie Plec says that the abduction of the twins will be another factor to play in the relationship between Stefan and Caroline.
Plec says that the past few episodes, the couple has been growing as a team. However, it can’t all be good days, especially in Mystic Falls.
Plec adds that the want to celebrate all the couples in the show. They are celebrating Bonnie and Enzo. They want to celebrate Damon and Elena despite the latter being in a coffin.
Speaking of Elena, there has been no confirmation if Nina Dobrev will return to reprise her role. Plec has long stated that she has been in talks with Nina regarding her return.
The executive producer adds that she already has the finale plotted with Elena in the picture. However, she also has a backup plan in case things don’t go the way things were planned.
Dobrev left the show after Season 6 with her character falling under a deep slumber courtesy of Kai. Her life has also been linked with Bonnie’s life under a spell, which means that Elena will only wake up if Bonnie dies.
Reports suggest that the 28-year-old actress might return, but as Elena’s doppelganger, Katherine Pierce. Fans speculate that the shadow who caused Georgie’s death looked a lot like that of Katherine.
