The Vampire Diaries Season 8 to Go Back to Its Roots; Showrunner Teases Sybil’s Effect on Damon!

The final season of “The Vampire Diaries” will be nostalgic, to say the least, as the series will be heading back to its roots when it premieres in October.

Speaking to TV Guide, executive producer Julie Plec shares that the upcoming season of The CW series will excite fans because it will give them the feel of the first few seasons of the show.

For one, the final 16 episodes of the show will have episode titles that are lines from the first season.

The CW has already released the titles of the first three episodes. The season premiere is entitled “Hello Brother” followed by “Today Will Be Different,” and the third episode is titled “You Decided That I Was Worth Saving.”

Plec says this will again re-introduce fans to the dark side of Damon Salvatore. The lady showrunner says that after the events of Season 7, the older Salvatore, along with Enzo and Bonnie, will be reeling from what Nathalie Kelley’s Sybil did.

Damon was initially introduced as the bad guy for the first two seasons of “The Vampire Diaries” as he continued to torment Stefan and his relationship with Elena. By Season 3, Damon started to change along with his blossoming relationship with Elena.

Reports say that the upcoming season will see Damon being manipulated by Sybil to unleash his inner darkness making his villain personality his worst enemy.

Sybil will reportedly continue using Damon and Enzo as her hitmen in performing summary executions in the first few episodes of the new season.

Plec teases that Sybil will force Damon and Enzo to perform sadistic acts. Fans were already given a glimpse of how bloody it got but the showrunner says that the two will be forced to do gruesome executions.

Melty reports that Bonnie, Stefan, Caroline, and Alaric will create a game plan to save both from Sybil without being victimized themselves.

The group will be using maps and news reports in an effort to track down the missing vampires and to save people from being killed.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Matt Davis, who plays Alaric, explains that Sybil is a tricky villain. He says that the character can see into the core of a creature and know all their secrets particularly their propensity for evil.

Season 8 is expected to shed some light on the origin of Sybil and how was the character able to obtain her powers.

Back in Season 7, it was revealed that the monster in the vault was a thousand years old and is able to get inside the head of its victims and can mimic voices of its victims’ loved ones.

This is why Damon was lured into the cave because Sybil mimicked the voice of Elena for him to go further into the vault.

As for Stefan and Caroline’s relationship, it looks like things will finally be going great for the couple. Candice King, who plays Caroline, teases fans that they will enjoy Steroline scenes in Season 8

Speaking during the show’s panel at the San Diego ComicCon, Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan, says that his character and Caroline will have a smooth sailing relationship in the upcoming season.

Nina Dobrev’s impending return

The Vampire Diaries Season 6

Meanwhile, one of the most anticipated things in the final season of “The Vampire Diaries” is Nina Dobrev’s likely return. Dobrev, who plays Elena Gilbert, left the show after Season 6 with her character falling into a deep slumber linked to Bonnie’s life.

When the cast announced during the San Diego ComicCon that Season 8 will be the final season, Plec revealed that she and Nina had a meeting about Elena’s return for the series finale.

“The Final Girls” star has also expressed her desire to return for the series finale, but a confirmation from Dobrev, Plec or The CW, has yet to be announced.
