Speaking to EW, Michael Malarkey, who plays Enzo, says that Damon has totally lost it while Enzo still has a little grip on his humanity. He also says that Bonnie will definitely play a huge part on how his character can come back.

Julie Plec stated during the San Diego ComicCon that the last season will be darker than ever, but every loose end will be tied up and everything will come full circle. It will also parallel a lot of scenes from the first few seasons of “The Vampire Diaries” to show how the characters have evolved throughout the past seven seasons.

Plec also promised fans that she’s trying her best to convince Nina to return to the show and to have every question answered as well as to satisfy fans.

Old characters are also expected to return. The members of the Mikaelson family is expected to drop by to Mystic Falls to pay homage to the show. Another major crossover episode is also expected to happen between “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals.”

Michael Trevino has been confirmed to return as Tyler Lockwood. He will appear in a couple of episodes in Season 8.

Tyler is the one in-charge of keeping Elena’s body safe. Speculations say that he will play a major role in helping Damon to get his old self back.

The final season of “The Vampire Diaries” will premiere on October 21. It will have 16 episodes with all titles being memorable lines from the pilot season.
