The final season of “The Vampire Diaries” is rumored to add actress Kristen Stewart as a possible replacement for Nina Dobrev’s Elena Gilbert character.
According to News Everyday, Nina is still in talks to return for the final season. However, it looks like she will come back as Elena’s doppelganger Katherine Pierce instead.
Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan recently teased fans that it would be nice for everyone to see Ms. Pierce back in Mystic Falls. Paul added that Katherine’s attitude has added a great element to the show and it would be nice to see her again in any capacity.
Katherine was a significant part of the show since the beginning. The snarky vampire was last seen in Season 5 after being dragged into darkness when she was about to pass to the Other Side.
Executive producer Julie Plec has always been consistent in saying that fans have not yet seen the last of Katherine, which meant that the hundred-year-old vampire might make an interesting comeback in the eighth and final season of “The Vampire Diaries.”
Meanwhile, reports have been rife that Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon, is not up for a Delena reunion anymore. This has a lot to do with Somerhalder and Dobrev previously dating before he married actress Nikki Reed.
Nina’s impending return reportedly causes some strain with Ian and Nikki, but none of these marital woes were confirmed.
Speaking of Reed, Chatt Sports Net reports that the actress has been pushing for Stewart to guest star in the show.
Reed and Stewart worked together in the popular “Twilight” franchise. The media outlet says that with Nina’s return still unofficial, showrunner Julie Plec and producers are in search for an actress to fill her important role.
Speculations say that the producers are already in negotiations with Stewart over a major story arc in the upcoming eighth season. The producers wanted to cast someone who is already experienced and Stewart’s role as Bella in the popular vampire franchise is definitely a great match.
iTech Post reports that if the “Equals” actress will indeed sign up for the show, then it might help the show’s ratings. It will be recalled that after Nina left the show in Season 6, there has been a massive dip in the show’s ratings.
Elena was cast under a spell from Kai that linked Bonnie and her life. This meant that Elena will only wake up the moment Bonnie dies.
No official announcement has been made about Stewart’s involvement and Dobrev’s return, but fans say that she could be a great potential partner for Damon if Elena will not return.
Stefan is already happy with Caroline and Bonnie has found love in Enzo. Fans wish that Damon also finds some happiness for himself by the series’ close with another woman worthy of his love.
The final season of The CW hit will focus on Stefan and the rest of the Mystic Falls gang to save Damon and Enzo from the wrath of Sybil.
During the Season 7 finale, Damon and Enzo were lured into the cave where Sybil has turned them into ripper vampires. The two were tricked into going further into the cave with Sybil playing Elena’s voice into Damon’s mind.
Speculations say that Sybil is actually Katherine as the creature has been living in the tomb for three years or more.
Fans will remember that after Season 6, the show jumped three years ahead of the timeline which makes the speculation contain a little bit of truth.
