Show creator Julie Plec led the cast members of “The Vampire Diaries” during the show’s presentation panel at the San Diego ComicCon.
While the buzz online has been about the impending return of Nina Dobrev to the Season 8 of “The Vampire Diaries,” there was no mentioned of such during the show’s presentation panel at the ComicCon, leading fans to believe that the previous speculations are false.
What Plec made certain during the event is that Season 8 of “The Vampire Diaries” is going to be the last for the show and instead of the usual 23 episodes, the upcoming final season shall only feature 16 episodes to be broken down into two halves of eight episodes apiece.
The showrunner also hinted that the romances in the TV series might finally have their happy endings unlike in the past seasons where they almost always end up in tragedies.
Plec said that Season 8 is going to be fun because they get to really deliver on relationships completely in a way that they were never been able to, notes the International Business Times.
Without her saying it, ‘Steroline’ fans got excited and enthusiastic about Caroline, played by Candice Accola King, and Stefan, played by Paul Wesley. Reports have it that they will finally come together and have an opportunity to try to be happy even though things around them are so chaotic and distressing.
When the show returns for the first episode of Season 8, fans can expect ‘Steroline’ to pick right back up where they left off with their relationship.
In a recent interview, Paul Wesley said that the relationship of ‘Steroline’ is going to be steamy from the get-go of Season 8, reports Zap2it.
After seeing the couple struggle all year to overcome magical babies, old lovers, and hell dimensions, it’s nice to know that they’ll be picking up in a happy place. But knowing “The Vampire Diaries,” things won’t be smooth sailing as expected as there shall come the usual trials and tribulations.
Conclusion to a love triangle
There is also the love triangle between Bonnie, played by Kat Graham, Enzo, played by Michael Malarkey, and Damon Salvatore, played by Ian Somerhalder, which could finally have its conclusion in Season 8.
It is possible that Nina Dobrev’s re-entry or cameo appearance might solve the problem once and for all, especially if she reprises her Elena Gilbert role and finally give the fans of ‘Delena’ happiness and closure.
It is also possible that Nina Dobrev’s re-entry into “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 may be the show’s best kept secret and it is just fitting to finally see her return after missing Season 7.
But there also lies a complication in bringing her Elena Gilbert character back because that would also mean that the show had to kill off Bonnie and Enzo might end up loveless eventually.
Under a jinx spell
It can be recalled that during the Season 6 finale of “The Vampire Diaries,” Elena and Bonnie were placed under a jinx by former villain Kai Parker, played by Chris Wood.
The jinx place Elena in a deep slumber and there would be no physical or magical means of waking her up from the curse. The only way to wake her up is through Bonnie’s death.
Since Nina Dobrev was already on the way out of the show back then, it was agreed that Bonnie just live the days remaining in her mortal life while Elena lies asleep in a protected coffin.
So if Elena Gilbert wakes up from her deep slumber, it would automatically mean the death of Bonnie.
However, there are also rumors saying that Damon shall reportedly be the one to kill Bonnie in order to wake up Elena.
All these remain as speculations pending the confirmation or denial from the showrunner or the cast members themselves when filming for Season 8 begins soon.
