It’s the classic type of rumor to promote a movie or a TV show and it seems that some people want to try it out for the eighth and final season of the American supernatural drama TV series “The Vampire Diaries” when it returns to The CW on October 21.
There are wild speculations going around that with the impending return of actress Nina Dobrev in “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8, it has reportedly put a strain on the marriage of Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon Salvatore in the TV series, and his real-life wife, Nikki Reed.
The reports are also saying that there is a good chance that the marriage of Somerhalder and Reed might head to a divorce and that the actor might end up reuniting with Dobrev, who happens to be his former real-life flame, notes Game & Guide.
Critics believe that this new round of rumors is quite similar to those happening between British actor Theo James and his Irish actress fiancé Ruth Kearney because he did a total of four movies with American actress Shailene Woodley.
It’s also in the same bloodline as the rumors linking Emma Stone with Ryan Gosling because they were filming “La La Land,” even though Gosling is already living together with Eva Mendes and that they share a love child together.
This supposed marital trouble between Somerhalder and Reed because of Dobrev appears to be a concocted story to help promote the upcoming Season 8 of “The Vampire Diaries.” In fact, neither Somerhalder nor Reed nor Dobrev nor their respective representative has made any confirmation or denial about the rumors, which seem to indicate that it is part of an orchestrated publicity campaign.
Reprising the Katherine role instead of Elena
While Nina Dobrev has yet to confirm her return to “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8, the rumors are rife that she will be reprising her Katherine Pierce role instead of the familiar Elena Gilbert character.
Elena Gilbert’s doppelganger is a big bad in “The Vampire Diaries” so Dobrev will be playing as a villain in the upcoming season of the TV series.
It was executive producer and writer Julie Plec who first hinted that Nina Dobrev shall indeed be returning in the final season of “The Vampire Diaries” so that they can tie all loose ends and give the show a fitting closure.
Nina Dobrev is currently filming “xXx: Return of Xander Cage” that features lead star Vin Diesel, along with Ruby Rose and Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone.
During the shooting of the movie, Dobrev said in jest on her Twitter account that she will be quitting acting to focus on operating a camera instead which she claims is her true calling, notes Mobile & Apps.
Her post was even retweeted by film director D.J. Caruso and shared a photo on his Twitter account showing Dobrev operating a camera. He captioned the photo by saying that he found a great camera operator that day and convinced the lady that she is on the wrong side of the lens.
Imperative for Nina to return
Season 8 of “The Vampire Diaries” is definitely going to be the last for the show. Thus, it becomes imperative for Nina Dobrev to come back to the show and give her character Elena Gilbert a fitting closure, the way the character deserves.
Elena Gilbert is an important character in “The Vampire Diaries,” having been the female protagonist during the first six seasons of the show. When Dobrev decided to move on from the show after the close of Season 6, the executive producers of the show decided to put her character in long slumber, only to be awakened by the death of Bonnie Bennett, played by Kat Graham.
Incidentally Bonnie is now the new love of Ian Somerhalder’s Damon Salvatore, the former on-screen and real-life love of Nina Dobrev, in the TV series so having Dobrev come back as Elena Gilbert means the automatic demise of Bonnie.
