With only seven episodes remaining for “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8, the reports are still a bit shaky on the possible return of Nina Dobrev to the show. However, there were reports that came out last week saying that the actress will appear in the finale episode of the TV series.
Prior to the confirmation, Nina Dobrev has been keeping mum on whether she will be making a comeback on the show to reprise her role as Elena Gilbert, a different character, or no longer.
It can be recalled that in Season 6 of “The Vampire Diaries,” Elena Gilbert was given a spell to remain asleep in her coffin until Bonnie Benett dies because the lives of the two were linked by Kai’s curse as part of his revenge against Bonnie.
Apparently, the showrunners left it that way to make way for a possible opening in the event that they are able to convince Nina Dobrev to return to the show.
Admittedly, Dobrev now has a busy schedule promoting her latest action film titled, “XXX: Return of Xander Cage” where she plays far different from Elena’s character, but a tech savvy named Becky wearing geeky eyeglasses.
Her also clumsy dork character will be seen teaming up with Vin Diesel’s character, Xander Cage, showing a new perspective to the people who remember her as Elena Gilbert from “The Vampire Diaries.”
Nina admits that she was greatly recognized as Elena Gilbert and her famous self-centred doppelganger, Katherine Pierce, in “The Vampire Diaries.” Her character actually has a great connection to the show’s two main protagonists, the Damon and Stefan Salvatore.
She admitted that the show, in fact, gave her a big break to move from the small screen to acting on films.
Following her departure from the TV series after its sixth season, Nina decided to veer away from her vampire-centric character and begin her journey by exploring other characters.
As far as “TVD” fans are concerned, they have also seen Nina Dobrev evolved on the show and became very flexible as she took on various roles as Elena, Katherine, and Amara.
What made Dobrev an even more versatile actress is her smooth portrayal of mood-shifting from the goody character to an evil-sided one.
But from the looks of it, Nina has long accepted her moving on from the beloved show and actually considers it as a welcome departure to finally venture into an acting career outside of her comfort zone.
The 28-year-old actress explained that she really wanted to be in action movies and wanted to be a badass female character which is why she auditioned for her role in “xXx.”
Nina Dobrev said that she gave her all for the audition and having been taken in makes her efforts really felt rewarding.
The actress is really determined to be versatile by welcoming change and considering it as a challenge.
Nina mentioned that she wants to shake things up for her career following her long years of shooting for her almost iconic small screen role.
Dobrev really wants to be challenged again and wants to figure out new things in acting so in order to do that she has to move to new arenas, particularly in movies.
While her initial foray into the big screen was a dud as hardly got an offer for roles, eventually, things started humming along.
In fact, Nina is set to make more films beginning this year and it seems that all her waiting has paid off. She is reported to appear in an action film, a romantic-comedy movie, and a period movie although no details have been revealed as of yet.
