Most of the fans of the American supernatural drama TV series “The Vampire Diaries” were excited to learn that actress Nina Dobrev shall be coming back on the upcoming Season 8 of the show, set to premiere on October 21, 2016.
Nina Dobrev plays the character Elena Gilbert in “The Vampire Diaries” and she left following the Season 6 finale as her character was put to sleep for a long time.
While fans of ‘Delena’ are elated with the impending return of Nina Dobrev because of the possible reunion of Damon, played by Ian Somerhalder, and Elena, there are also reports coming out that the actress may take on a different character other than Elena.
According to such speculations, it is possible that Nina Dobrev might take on the role of Katherine, Elena’s doppelganger in order to avoid Ian Somerhalder, who was her former real-life boyfriend who is now married to Nikki Reed of the popular vampire film series “Twilight.”
Somerhalder and Dobrev previously dated but after their break-up, the actress decided to leave the show, reports The Bitbag.
However, these rumors remain as speculations pending an official confirmation from the producers and showrunners and should be taken with a fine grain of salt.
Confirming the return of Nina Dobrev
It was executive producer Julie Plec who hinted that Nina Dobrev might return for Season 8 of “The Vampire Diaries.”
While her character was put on a long sleep, it can be recalled that during the Season 7 finale of “The Vampire Diaries,” she made a surprise voice cameo.
Nina Dobrev apparently recorded her voice as Elena Gilbert and that it was featured in the last episode of Season 7 when it was aired last month.
The Season 7 finale episode, entitled “Gods and Monsters,” also showed various old clips of Elena as her voice was being played. The scene has led fans to believe that Elena shall be returning in the next season of the series.
Plec claimed that she was surprised by Nina’s decision to return to “The Vampire Diaries” with a simple call for the Season 7 finale episode. The actress came to the set and chose to do an automatic dialogue replacement. The producers did not have to cobble anything from the previous episode, details the Hall of Fame Magazine.
At this time, it is still not clear whether Dobrev will return to reprise her Elena Gilbert character or someone else. But one thing is sure, her possible re-entry into the franchise shall certainly boost the stock of “The Vampire Diaries” in the ratings game.
Poor ratings speak for itself
The poor ratings of “The Vampire Diaries” during its Season 7 speak for itself, which only points to the fact that the reason for the slide is because of the absence of Nina Dobrev.
Producers and the showrunners are one in coming to the conclusion that the exit of Nina Dobrev during the seventh season really affected the ratings of the show and it is now obvious that the actress is the reason why the TV series was a hit during its first six seasons.
Elena and Damon are the prime sweethearts of “The Vampire Diaries” even to the point that Dobrev and Somerhalder took their relationship off-screen.
But when they broke up in real life and Somerhalder decided to marry Nikki Reed, who ironically played a vampire in the hit movie series “Twilight,” Dobrev left the show.
It has been reported that the upcoming Season 8 of “The Vampire Diaries” will be its last. But most fans are actually getting excited than ever not because apart from wanting to see how the story in Mystic Falls finally ends but more importantly because Nina Dobrev will possibly come back to reprise her Elena Gilbert character.
After being absent from the popular show during its recently-concluded Season 7, Nina Dobrev has decided to come back and finally allow her Elena Gilbert character to have her imminent reunion with Damon Salvatore.
Honestly I don’t think Dobrev is everything in TVD. The show can survive without her. season 7 was just awesome without her. If she can’t leave personal feelings at home ….
