Executive producer Julie Plec of the American supernatural drama TV series “The Vampire Diaries” on The CW has confirmed that actress Nina Dobrev shall be returning for the eighth and speculated to be the final season of the show.
After missing one season where the TV series saw a significant drop in its ratings, the producers and showrunners needed to arrest the slide and Nina Dobrev was the first to come to their minds.
Fortunately for them, the career of the actress did not take off in the movies or in other TV shows after she left “The Vampire Diaries” following the Season 6 finale as she wanted to be, so returning to the TV series that made her a household name is obviously the right thing to do for her.
While every fan of “The Vampire Diaries” are now getting excited over the imminent reunion of Damon Salvatore, played by actor Ian Somerhalder, and Elena Gilbert, the character being played by Nina Dobrev in the TV series, there are now rumors going around saying that the actress may come back not to reprise her old character but her doppelganger Katherine, reports Movie News Guide.
Fans have been debating on which character Nina Dobrev should take when she returns for “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8.
‘Delena’ shippers would want nothing but her return as Elena in order to satisfy their fancy for a Damon and Elena reunion and possibly a happy ever after ending.
However, non-Delena fans think that the departure of Nina Dobrev as Elena has made “The Vampire Diaries” an even better show. They also believe that if Dobrev is to come back, she is better off reprising Katherine.
The ratings speak for itself
The poor ratings of “The Vampire Diaries” during its Season 7 speak for itself, which only points to the fact that the reason for the slide is because of the absence of Nina Dobrev.
Producers and the showrunners are one in coming to the conclusion that the exit of Nina Dobrev during the seventh season really affected the ratings of the show and it is now obvious that the actress is the reason why the TV series was a hit during its first six seasons.
Elena and Damon are the prime sweethearts of “The Vampire Diaries” even to the point that Dobrev and Somerhalder took their relationship offscreen, reports the Ecumenical News.
But when they broke up in real life and Somerhalder decided to marry Nikki Reed, who ironically played a vampire in the hit movie series “Twilight,” Dobrev left the show.
“The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 is set to premiere on The CW on October 21 and filming would most likely begin anytime soon.
Putting a wrap on the Mystic Falls story
It has been reported that the upcoming Season 8 of “The Vampire Diaries” will be its last. But most fans are really getting excited than ever not because apart from wanting to see how the story in Mystic Falls finally ends but more importantly because Nina Dobrev will come back to reprise her Elena Gilbert character.
After being absent from the popular show during its recently-concluded Season 7, Nina Dobrev has decided to come back and finally allow her Elena Gilbert character to have her imminent reunion with Damon Salvatore.
As if to tease Ian Somerhalder what he has been missing, Nina Dobrev also posted an image of herself on social media wearing a bikini. According to reports, she made the post to indirectly call Somerhalder’s attention.
Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder used to be a romantic couple before parting ways. Somerhalder is now married while Dobrev continues to date guys but has not yet found that special someone to finally settle for good.
