Even though “The Vampire Diaries” is coming to an end, fans of the show don’t seem too disappointed – in fact, the various reports we’ve been getting from the showrunners seem to paint a very positive picture for the finale. Rumors claim that the producers have managed to bring Nina Dobrev back for a few final episodes, and some of the more major issues between characters are apparently going to be resolved by the end as well.
The return of Nina Dobrev seems to be the main point of interest for many fans right now. There was a lot of speculation over whether or not we would see the actress coming back, and which role she would play if she did. And while the situation is still a bit unclear, we saw some hints that the actress is coming back indeed; not only that, but it was implied that she would play the role of Katherine again.
There were talks about a potential love triangle involving Katherine and other characters, so if Nina Dobrev does come back for a few more episodes, her story is likely going to be a messy one.
Many fans seem skeptical towards the idea of uniting Katherine with one of the main characters though, and a serious relationship between her and Damon and/or Stefan will likely see a negative reception from the community.
At least that’s the general sentiment among most fans from what we’ve been able to tell from their discussions. It makes sense that followers of the show would see things like that too, as it’s a bit too late right now for the writers to develop any new romantic stories. It will end up a tease to the community if the story doesn’t get resolved in any meaningful way by the end of the show, and there isn’t a lot of time until then.
There are plenty of fans who would love to see Dobrev’s character end up with one of the brothers, on the other hand, and this used to be the general consensus in the community in the past. It’s actually a bit strange to see people’s opinions shifting so much lately, but considering that the show is coming to an end, it’s understandable.
For what it’s worth, some people on the show also agree that it would be a bad idea to bring Katherine together with one of the brothers, including Ian Somerhalder himself. This could be a hint to what the writers are planning, but it could just be the actor expressing his opinion on the situation.

The show managed to end at the right time, all things considered. “The Vampire Diaries” had a great run through its seasons, but lately some fans have been feeling a bit skeptical towards the idea of producing more episodes in the future. While there’s no doubt the showrunners could have found a way to keep things going for at least a few more seasons, the show would have likely gotten very stale during that time.
