The trailer of Season 7 of the American supernatural TV series “The Vampire Diaries” on The CW is out and it seems that the excitement will be plenty despite the absence of Elena Gilbert, played by Nina Dobrev until the end of Season 6.
If there is one thing that the trailer proves before Season 7 premieres on October 8, it’s the fact that the series can actually deliver a gripping and captivating season full of action, thrill, drama, and romance even without its heroine, notes Christian Today.
The video clip also showed a new batch of villains will be coming to Mystic Falls known as the Heretics. They will arrive and take over the place and tell everyone that anyone who sets foot in their newly-claimed territory will be theirs as well.
Caroline, who will be paired to Stefan in the upcoming Season 7 of “The Vampire Diaries,” calls the new baddies as the supernatural terrorists. She also thinks that it will be a huge mistake on the part of Stefan and Damon to simply hand over Mystic Falls to the troublemaking newcomers.
But apparently, a deal has already been struck between the Salvatore brothers and the Heretics which means that if their group does not mess with the Heretics, the Heretics would also not mess with them.
It was also shown later in the clip where Stefan telling Damon that the deal was not good at all. Bonnie also tells everyone that they must stop and destroy the evil that came to Mystic Falls.
That certainly sets up the premise for a possible showdown between the vampires of Mystic Falls and the Heretics.
Vampire witches
The Christian Post describes the Heretics as vampire witches who shall bring new dangers to the residents of Mystic Falls. The premiere episode is officially titled “Day One of Twenty-Two Thousand, Give or Take.”
Based on the still photos of “The Vampire Diaries” Season 7 released recently, Caroline will be able to encounter the vampire witches firsthand and she will fall under a painful spell.
The Heretics, it turns out, include the mother of Damon and Stefan, along with her clan and that is the reason why they will agree to a deal with them. But when their mother attempts to drive the humans out, that’s where the conflict begins and it is basically the storyline where Season 7 of “The Vampire Diaries” will revolve.
Shift in dynamics
Season 7 of “The Vampire Diaries” is in for a major shift in dynamics following the departure of Nina Dobrev from the show after playing the main female protagonist, Elena Gilbert, in the series for the past six years.
Elena has actually driven a wedge on the relationship of brothers Damon and Stefan Salvatore as the two attempted to win her heart.
Damon, played by Ian Somerhalder, had the obvious upperhand in the love triangle as Ian has actually been the real-life boyfriend of Nina Dobrev during a good portion of the show. Stefan, played by Paul Wesley, had an outside chance that just seems too hard to believe among fans of the show.
Now that Elena Gilbert is already out on a 70-year coma, reports have it that the Salvatore brothers will put the past love triangle involving the two of them behind them and will renew their kinship.
It was actually Paul Wesley who confirmed during the ComicCon 2015 in July that the relationship of Damon and Stefan will be one of the main focuses of the upcoming Season 7 of “The Vampire Diaries.”
Co-executive producer Julie Plec said that the seventh season is definitely going to have a new focus on the Damon-Stefan brother relationship, to which Paul said that people really seem to love the Salvatore brothers together.
