During the Season 7 premiere of the American supernatural TV series “The Vampire Diaries” on October 8 on The CW, fans were happy knowing that Stefan Salvatore, played by Paul Wesley, and Caroline Forbes, played by Candice Accola, finally made a go of their too-long-in-the-making romantic relationship.
Even before the premiere of Season 7 of “The Vampire Diaries” aired, Stefan and Caroline already made things official on Facebook by hinting of Steroline, so most fans already knew that they are going to hook up right on the first episode and work from there.
It turns out however that Steroline was only short-lived because right on the second episode of “The Vampire Diaries,” the series already shot the romantic relationship on the foot, leaving fans of the show crushed, details TV Line.
The second episode of Season 7 of “The Vampire Diaries” actually featured a three-year time jump and showed Caroline happily engaged to somebody but not to Stefan.
It was quite positive that Caroline was not engaged to Stefan at all because she was pretty annoyed by the mere mention of his name during the second episode. She was even quoted as saying to her assistant that if Stefan calls back, he should be told that Caroline is not there because she does not want to hear the name of Stefan Salvatore again.
That episode 2 scene actually triggered plenty of speculations on who could be Caroline’s fiancé. Among those characters that made it to speculation include Matt and Tyler, with whom she dated years back, Alaric, Jeremy, and Enzo. Or it could be someone entirely new which could only be known in subsequent episodes of “The Vampire Diaries” Season 7.
Back in fighting form
What is good about the TV series is the fact that “The Vampire Diaries” has been holding pretty good without Elena Gilbert on it in its first two episodes.
While Nina Dobrev’s Elena Gilbert may be the signature do-gooder of the show, there are just too many characters and subplots on the TV series whom viewers can focus their attention on so much so that they nearly forgot that there was once Elena around.
The second episode of Season 7 of “The Vampire Diaries” was quite complex because it came out as a solid and classic “The Vampire Diaries” caper, which indicate that the show is back in its fighting form, details io9.
It featured Caroline being captured and tortured by the Heretics in the Salvatore House while Stefan and Damon were unable to do anything about it because their mother Lily was orchestrating the whole thing.
The episode also showed Bonnie stepping into the spotlight and now appears to be everyone’s go-to-gal, serving the likes of Damon, Alaric, and Matt.
Equal screen time
The good news about the second episode of “The Vampire Diaries” Season 7 was the notion that every character in the TV series had equal screen time complete with their own personal compelling plot and motivations.
In effect, it has already deviated from its previous focus on Elena Gilbert and her love life and affairs but instead put to the limelight all the other interesting characters of the TV series, which is quite a smart move. The more things are in the plate for the viewers, the more things that they can chew on and certainly enjoy the show. So much so that fans and viewers can now say very well that Elena could just stay asleep for the next 60 years or so and they would not even mind.
The premiere episode of Season 7 of “The Vampire Diaries” was the first in the history of the TV series without Nina Dobrev in it as the show’s heroine for the past six seasons.
While there are occasional reminders of Elena’s absence, the premiere episode actually showed how small of an impact her departure has had on the general feel of “The Vampire Diaries.”
After all, the true mettle of a very good TV series is its main storylines and not its characters. Characters will come and go but if the show is consistent with its riveting or captivating storylines, it will be able to hold itself well for some time.
