‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 7 Hits the Ground Running in the Romance Department with Steroline!

With Nina Dobrev and her Elena Gilbert officially out of the American supernatural TV series “The Vampire Diaries,” the first episode of Season 7, which premiered on October 8 on The CW, hit the ground running in the romance department as Stefan and Caroline officially become a couple, already known to fans as Steroline.

Stefan Salvatore, played by Paul Wesley, and Caroline Forbes, played by Candice Accola, have been walking the tightrope between friendship and something more for quite some time now in the TV series.

But during the Season 7 premiere, they finally made out and began what appears to be one of the main romantic pairs of the show from henceforth – the Steroline, reports MTV.

Back in Season 6 of “The Vampire Diaries,” Stefan confessed his feelings to Caroline. But she was grieving her mother’s death at that time and that she needed time to find herself and maker herself happy first.

Start of something new

Apparently, the break between Season 6 and Season 7 is all that Caroline needed to decide to either go for or shun Steroline for good. During the Season 7 premiere, she jumped the gun on Stefan and told him that she does not want to wait anymore so that’s when they decided to hook up, kissed, and everything else was glorious for them and the fans of the show.

It can be recalled that the spark between the two was first ignited back in Season 2 of “The Vampire Diaries” when Stefan was still hot in pursuit of the heart of Elena, who happens to be Caroline’s best friend.

Even before the premiere of Season 7 of “The Vampire Diaries” aired last week, Stefan and Caroline already made things official on Facebook by hinting of Steroline, so most fans already knew that they are going to hook up right on the first episode and work from there.

Other than Ian Somerhalder’s Damon Salvatore and Nina Dobrev’s Elena Gilbert characters in “The Vampire Diaries,” who have been real-life sweethearts for some time, Stefan and Caroline have the second most number of romantic and happy moments in the TV series. With Steroline now official, there will be more of such moments in the subsequent episodes or even seasons of “The Vampire Diaries.”

Did good but fell kind of short

The premiere episode of Season 7 of “The Vampire Diaries” was the first in the history of the TV series without Nina Dobrev in it as the show’s heroine for the past six seasons.

The show was quite successful in making Elena Gilbert and Nina Dobrev no longer relevant in the TV series as the first episode already showcased to the viewers how many characters that they can follow and focus their attention on.

While there are occasional reminders of Elena’s absence, the premiere episode actually showed how small of an impact her departure has had on the general feel of “The Vampire Diaries,” notes the Den of Geek.

After all, the true mettle of a very good TV series is its main storylines and not its characters. Characters will come and go but if the show is consistent with its riveting or captivating storylines, it will be able to hold itself well for some time.

That seems to be what the first episode of “The Vampire Diaries,” officially titled “Day One of Twenty-Two Thousand, Give or Take,” successfully did.

The Vampire Diaries Season 7

The 22,000 in the title is actually the number of days that Elena Gilbert would be sleeping before she can even come back. That’s more than 60 years so it’s as good as saying never actually.

However as a premiere episode which has a lot to prove, the first episode of Season 7 could have been a lot stronger, notes some fans and critics.

There is an obvious sense of rebuilding in the TV series which comes with an attempt to introduce a whole new set of villains and status quo for Mystic Falls.
