‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 7 Confirmed Amid Declining Ratings of Season 6 Episodes!

While it has previously been the most watched TV series on CW, Season 6 of “The Vampire Diaries” has been a struggle as of late, ratings wise.

For some reason, the American supernatural drama series has lost its magic to the viewers especially in its last few episodes which were quite evident in the significant drop in its viewership ratings, notes Cinema Blaze.

Episode 16 of Season 6 is due for airing on March 12 and the 22nd and final episode of the TV series is scheduled for showing on the small screen on May 14th.

Despite its declining ratings, “The Vampire Diaries” has been confirmed for Season 7 which gave its key stars and some of its die-hard fans a new lease of life. As to whether there will be a subsequent Season 8 or not would depend on how the production team of the series turn things around for the show with the remaining episodes of the current season and also the next.

Heyday as a top-rating TV series

During its first few seasons, “The Vampire Diaries” had its good share of the limelight that it became the springboard for the release of a spin-off TV series called “The Originals.”

“The Originals” is now on its second season and while it continues to rate well, it can no longer be said about the “The Vampire Diaries.”

It may be the stories of the recent episodes or many of the fans have gotten tired of its formula, but “The Vampire Diaries” really needs a makeover to continue to be relevant and reclaim its old magic as CW’s most-watched TV show.

Many of the fans actually started losing interest on “The Vampire Diaries” during the series’ fifth season, which many viewers believe to have become quite tedious.

The series also lost its lustre when some of its original cast left the show to star on “The Originals” including Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, and Claire Holt.

More bad news

Aside from its not-so-good ratings, there’s also more bad news for “The Vampire Diaries” as Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev will reportedly not return for Season 7.

The report have yet to be confirmed but if it’s true that Paul Wesley will not return for Season 7, it will really be a big blow to “The Vampire Diaries” because he is just one of the few remaining bright spots on the struggling TV series.

But in a recent interview, Paul Wesley, who happens to be directing the show, says that he believes that he has another year with “The Vampire Diaries” but can no longer tell beyond that. He said that he is still enjoying the show because he is directing it and just like the other actors in the show, he does not want to be stagnant.

Wesley also hinted that that the production team will be shifting the dynamics of “The Vampire Diaries” next season and he is actually not sure whether the show will keep the same cast.

  1. It just isn’t the same show anymore. In seasons 1,2 and 3 it had great storylines, unexpected twists, logic and warmth. It wasn’t the kind of show in which everyone just goes to bad with everyone. It had some depth. Now it’s all about pleasing one part of the audiance who spends all their time on twitter demanding rain kisses and wedings. Every single couple in the show seems fake and out of nowhere. Episides are disconnected. Most characters have no purpose. Even some main characters became side characters. Main heroine became a character everyone loves to hate. She declares her love for one brother and than sleeps with other. Shallow writing.

  2. We need Paul Wesley in TVD please stay with us if Paul Ian Nina leave I am done with this show

  3. I was a huge fan of TVD’s and made sure nothing was planned for Thursday nights, 8:00pm. In fact I’d watch it with 4 other people who equally loved this show. Unfortunately we all lost interest when they made it all about Damon and Delena. It just got boring. Please understand we used to like Damon before. But just not an entire show about him. We were fans of the beautiful and touching love story of Stefan and Elena, Bonnie the powerful witch. Caroline the busy body nosey friend and Damon the annoying older brother. We became bored and annoyed that Ian (Damon) got the best lines, storylines, fight scenes, women then the epic love of his brothers life Elena, best friend, and so on. As soon as they turned it into the Damon/Delena show, people left. That’s just a fact. I hope Paul doesn’t go back to TVD’s because the way they treated him was horrible.

  4. It is NOT the vampire diaries. It is called the Delena diaries, and i am so done with it. Sad it was a great show. But it løst its bite when Elena become so different. For my hope the next Season is that Damon Will for once and for all brake up with Elena. That Will be my biggest wish but I know it will never come true.

  5. I agree with all of u guys. Elena and Damon’s relationship becomes soooo boring and these three main characters are not as important as before. New characters are too much and they didn’t even pay attention to their desire to blood and their characters changes alto especially Elena and Damon.all become sooo good people.I think originals should come back with the first actors and actresses and every thing becomes like it was in first third or forth seasons.plzzzzz

  6. TVD is still a good show regardless of what some may say! I do miss the original family being intertwined in the show, but what if there were still separate shows and the cast and story line constantly mixed. Plus u should bring Megan fox to the show. Remember her in “Jennifer’s body” she could be a great villain and replacement for elena that the audience would like! Kind of like a female Damon from season 1.
