Caroline is also expected to give birth to Alaric and Jo’s twins in the next few episodes of Season 7 of “The Vampire Diaries.”
As it is, there are two main storylines in the TV series – the present day and the three-year time jump. Most of the characters of “The Vampire Diaries” have been featured in the three-year time jump with the exception of the Mystic Falls sheriff Matt Donovan, played by Zach Roerig.
According to speculations, this could possibly mean that Matt Donovan, being one of the few remaining pure human characters in the TV series, may actually meet his demise in the present-day storyline which is the reason why his future self is nowhere to be found in the scenes with a three-year time jump.
Critics believe that it is definitely not a good news for fans of Matt Donovan, who is also one of the fan-favorite characters in “The Vampire Diaries” having been a boyfriend of Nina Dobrev’s Elena Gilbert character and also Caroline.
Dries actually teased in a recent interview that they too have not noticed Matt Donovan in the flash forward so they are not really sure if that is a good thing, refusing to divulge the real score, lest she lets loose a mouthful of spoilers.
