‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 7 Absence of Matt Donovan in Flash Forwards May Indicate Demise of Mystic Falls’ Sheriff!

The second half of the Season 7 of the American supernatural drama TV series “The Vampire Diaries” will premiere on The CW on January 29.

As it is, there are two main storylines in the TV series – the present day and the three-year time jump. Most of the characters of “The Vampire Diaries” have been featured in the three-year time jump with the exception of the Mystic Falls sheriff Matt Donovan, played by Zach Roerig.

According to speculations, this could possibly mean that Matt Donovan, being one of the few remaining pure human characters in the TV series, may actually meet his demise in the present-day storyline which is the reason why his future self is nowhere to be found in the scenes with a three-year time jump.

The Australia Network News believes that it is definitely not a good news for fans of Matt Donovan, who is also one of the fan-favorite characters in “The Vampire Diaries” having been a boyfriend of Nina Dobrev’s Elena Gilbert character and also of Caroline Forbes, played by Candice Accola.

Showrunner Caroline Dries actually teased in a recent interview that they too have not noticed Matt Donovan in the flash forward so they are not really sure if that is a good thing, refusing to divulge the real score, lest she lets loose a mouthful of spoilers.

Their future selves

As the first half of Season 7 of “The Vampire Diaries” has shown, most of the members of the vampire gang have gone their separate ways in the future.

Damon Salvatore, played by Ian Somerhalder, retreated to a coffin to sleep through the next fifty years or so until Elena wakes up. But Stefan, played by Paul Wesley, interrupted Damon’s slumber to ask for his help in escaping from the vampire huntress known as Rayna, details Melty.

The three-year time jump also showed Stefan with Valerie and is no longer on speaking terms with Caroline who is engaged to Alaric. It also showed that Alaric and Damon are no longer the best friends that they used to be.

But the most surprising future storyline of all is that of Bonnie being in a psych ward and is seemingly in love with Enzo.

Fans and viewers of “The Vampire Diaries” also got a glimpse of Tyler in the future story, as played by Michael Trevino, who officially left the series at the end of Season 6, about the same time as Nina Dobrev.

With all the core cast members accounted for in the future storyline, it only indicates that the future may really be not too rosy for Matt Donovan. While his fate may not be entirely sealed as of this time, things are simply not looking too good for the Mystic Falls sheriff.

An entirely different show

Caroline Dries also said that the second half of Season 7 of “The Vampire Diaries” will make viewers feel that they are watching a completely different show.

The TV series used to be aired every Thursday on The CW but because of some programming changes, the network moves it to Friday beginning on its midseason premiere on January 29 in what critics feel is an excellent move to solidify its hold on the timeslot.

In a recent interview, Dries said that the second part of “The Vampire Diaries” Season 7 will begin with an entirely different theme that avid fans and viewers would not expect to see in the popular supernatural romance drama TV series.

She added that the show will be dealing with the fallout from the winter finale both emotionally and plot-wise.

In addition, Dries also mentioned of the significant time jump in “The Vampire Diaries” Season 7 since the babies of Caroline will be born soon.

The Vampire Diaries Season 7

Although they are conceived with the help of magic, the babies inside Caroline’s womb will still have the typical nine-month development stage.

During the fall finale of “The Vampire Diaries,” much of the focus of the show was on Caroline’s surprising pregnancy as well as the plans of brothers Damon and Stefan to kill Julian.

The second half of Season 7 of “The Vampire Diaries” will also feature the entry of a cruel vampire huntress named Rayna, to be played by Leslie-Anne Huff. Rayna will go after Stefan.
