Action has picked up in The Vampire Diaries Season 6. Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) have been sent to 1994. In spite of all their efforts to return to present-day Mystic Falls, they have failed.
Bonnie and Damon get caught-up with Kai (Chris Wood). The two realise that there is no getting rid of Kai when Bonnie does something that comes naturally to her – sacrificing herself for others. She makes Damon go back home, leaving her behind.
The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Executive Producer, Caroline Dries, has said that Damon will suffer from terrible guilt pangs after he allows Bonnie to sacrifice herself for him. Damon feels that Bonnie is going to end up dead.
The key to Bonnie and Damon returning back to present was in Damon’s past, a past that torments and terrorises him. Damon lived with his brother Zach. One he hasn’t met for five decades. Damon had tricked Zach into believing that he was on animal diet, but the latter finds out bite marks on his wife, Gail’s wrists.
Stefan comes in, to rescue and blames Damon for ruining his life yet again. Damon turns into a beast and kills everyone and flees town. Stefan erases Zach’s memory and accompanies his brother.
Upon returning to Mystic Falls, Damon hides the fact that Bonnie is dead, to stop others from breaking down. The group eventually finds out that Bonnie is still alive in 1994 and makes a plan to get her back. The Vampire Diaries Season 6, as revealed by the creators, will focus on the torment created in Damon regarding his actions in the past and his guilt at leaving Bonnie with the psychotic Kai.
Initially, in The Vampire Diaries Season 6, Damon and Bonnie had thought that Kai would be the one to help them return home. Later on as the series progressed, they realise that Kai was a murderer who had killed his entire family, the Gemini Coven, and was now threatening to take away their powers if they did not take him along.
The Vampire Diaries Season 6 fans might not see Bonnie in the present setting of Mystic Falls, but she will appear alongside Kai in the flashback scenes from 1994. The latest season will see Bonnie reuniting with her friends Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Caroline (Candice Accola) in those scenes.
The midseason finale of The Vampire Dairies Season 6 will take the viewers to the first season of the series. There will be a huge party where Bonnie, Caroline and Elena, who were high school besties, have fun together.
