Valerie was devastated when she found out that Nora and Mary Louise destroyed the Phoenix Stone sword because she felt that Stefan was lost forever since Rayna stabbed Stefan with it previously.
But Damon was optimistic that they can find Rayna and somehow use her to reunite Stefan’s soul with his body. Eventually, Damon came across Stefan walking along the side of the road and picks him up. However, he realized that it is not his brother’s soul inside the Stefan persona he found.
He then sought the assistance of Alaric and Valerie, saying that they need to keep Stefan’s body close while they search for his soul, which cannot survive more than three days in a human body.
They also found out that the vampire soul inside of Stefan preys on party-goers in sorority and fraternity houses and forces them to murder each other. The episode wrapped up with Stefan’s body entering a frat party obviously to create another chaos.
It turns out that the real Stefan is stuck in the freezing cold after the car he took from the cabin broke down. Even after Damon saves Stefan from freezing to death, Stefan declares that all is not forgiven between them.
