“The Strain” was first envisioned as a series in 2006, but Fox Broadcasting Company suggested to make it a comedy, leading the negotiations with del Torro to a breakdown. After the publication of the trilogy’s first novel, the book started receiving offers for film and series adaptation rights, but the creators Hogan and del Torro rejected the offers since they did not want screen adaptations to affect their writing.
FX network proposed the opportunity to follow the book installments’ storyline, with the assurance to make three to five seasons of the show, consisting of 39 to 65 episodes, and with that settled, the show began filming on November 19, 2013.
“The Strain” Season 2 premiered on July 12, and so far, expectations for the season include more vampire killing scenes and action. According to IGN, Season 2 will double the horror and alcohol use, which existed throughout the first season. The new Season will also bring new headquarters, increasing alcohol content, and frequent flashbacks to the viewers.
The series uses costumes and extensive makeup in order to portray its characters in a unique way. The use of props is one of the key features of the TV series, as it brings coffins and body cast sculptures to complete the terrifying atmosphere. One of the series’ specific details is how the vampires in the show are portrayed as transmitting a worm parasite by using a tentacle that appears from their necks.
Season 2 is predicted to stretch through 13 episodes, with the ending date set in October. Cast members include Corey Stoll as Dr. Ephraim, Mía Maestro as Dr. Nora Martinez, David Bradley as Professor Abraham Setrakian, Kevin Durand as Vasiliy Fet, Jonathan Hyde as Eldritch Palmer, and others.
