Season 2 of the science-fiction horror drama TV series “The Strain” continues the quest for protection and new ways to survive attacks from vampires. The new episode “By Any Means” also introduces intimacy between Fet and Dutch, while continuing the theme of battle at the same time. Setrakian’s flashbacks to 1965 Vienna also continued his search for the “Occido Lumen” book.
Additionally, Season 2 follows Ephraim and Nora who take shelter in Brooklyn. The two scientists take refuge in Vasily Fet’s workshop, along with their survivors group, and try to develop a plan on how to kill the Strigoi’s immortal leader, called the Master.
The storyline of Season 2 continues where Season 1 left off. Two of the main characters, Dr. Ephraim and Abraham Setrakian have failed to kill the Master, played by Robert Maillet, and now they have to plan their next move.
“By Any Means” follows the group of survivors while they deliberate on what their next move should be, in their hideaway. Later in the episode, Ephram and Nora try to develop a new virus aimed to destroy vampire cells while Vasily Fet aims to make a safe fortress.
“The Strain” Season 1 premiered on July 13, 2014, on the FX TV network. The series was created by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. It is based on “The Strain” novel trilogy also created by del Torro and Hogan. The pilot episode called “Night Zero” premiered in June 2014 at the ATX Television Festival in Austin, Texas.
According to Washington Post, the ability of the show to deliver several plots and subplots in one is what makes it unique and captivating. The multiplicity of the series’ plots and subplots includes the brotherhood of vampire ninjas who aim to destroy the Master, a billionaire bankrolling the Master, and Abraham’s flashbacks. Along with the main plot of fighting against infected vampires, the series combines all these other stories into a unique and single main plot.
An additional subplot also follows the character of Ephram’s adolescent son Zack. The character of Zack is portrayed as a teen who is in desperate search for his mother Kelly, even though his father claims that she has become an evil vampire. Meanwhile, the Master has promoted her into having her own vampires called the Feelers, which she plans to use in order to hunt her son.
“The Strain” falls under the genre of vampire horror novels. The first novel, titled “The Strain,” was released in 2009, that sets the stage for the two other novels in the series. First envisioned as a TV series, the first installment of the novel was followed by the sequel called “The Fall,” which was released in 2010. The last book titled “The Night Eternal,” was released in 2011.
The storyline of the novel follows Dr. Ephram Goodweather and Dr. Nora Martinez, who are leading a group of survivors in New York after a vampire infection spread through the city. The infected vampires, known as the Strigoi, have taken over the city rapidly.
The Strigoi use their strengths and special abilities to attack humans and increase their number. The surviving group is forced to battle the cold-blooded vampires while searching for ways to stop the infection from spreading.
