Some fans are now wondering what EA might be planning for the next installment in the series, although there is practically no information in this regard and EA haven’t even confirmed that they are working on anything at all.
It’s not unreasonable to assume that another “The Sims” is going to arrive eventually though. The franchise is simply too attractive as an investment to pass up on that opportunity. It does take a lot of effort to develop the games, from what we’ve seen so far, but in the end the work is more than justified for EA’s developers.
One interesting discussion we’ve seen in fan circles recently concerns the future of the franchise with regards to things like social media and Internet connectivity. It’s obvious that these things are going to have a much more central presence in the games we play in the future, and “The Sims” as a franchise predisposes towards that as well.
But is it really a good idea ultimately? It seems like many players would be more annoyed than excited if the next “Sims” game forced them to connect their Facebook account or something along those lines, and we’ve seen some worrying indications that this might be coming up on the horizon exactly. Let’s hope that we’re wrong and that this isn’t actually what EA are planning to do with the franchise though, as that would be a complete disaster for it.
