The life simulation video game “The Sims 4” shall remain a PC game because a representative of the game publisher Electronic Arts (EA) has just confirmed that there is no plan to port the game on the current generation gaming consoles, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.
On a tweet on July 26, Lyndsay Pearson of EA said that their company has no plans to release a console version of “The Sims 4” anytime in the near future. She told gamers to just ignore the rumors.
There have been rumors as early as last year that there were ongoing efforts to port the game to the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 but there were some technical glitches that had to be ironed out.
Late in June, reports also came out that because of the technical difficulties in porting “The Sims 4” to the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, the game publisher has decided to cancel the plan to release a console version of the game.
The statement made by Pearson late last month seem to have confirmed that EA might have indeed abandoned its plan to release a version of the game on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.
Critics believe that the dismissal to the rumors by Lyndsay Pearson came rather a bit late since the speculations have begun as early as last year. She could have quashed and debunked the speculations back then if the intention was indeed to make a clarification.
Waiting for the next-gen consoles
There are reportedly two major reasons for the decision of EA to abandon the porting of the game to the current generation gaming consoles.
The first one states that EA is waiting for the release of the next generation gaming consoles in the Xbox Two and the PlayStation 5, which would not happen until 2018 or later.
The second reason suggests that the game publisher and its counterpart game developer Maxxis Studios want to focus on the development of “The Sims 5” instead of figuring out how to port the game on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, notes Neurogadget.
Although “The Sims” titles are usually made for the PC, the previous iterations of the game were brought to other platforms so it is a mystery to most critics and gamers why “The Sims 4” have not gotten the same treatment.
Still, the life simulation video game is very enjoyable on the PC because of its continuous expansions through various downloadable contents, notes the Christian Today.
A few weeks ago, the Backyard Stuff pack was released to “The Sims 4” as well as an additional update featuring a nanny, which Sims can hire to babysit their kids.
A diversionary tactic
Accordingly, the expansion packs and the DLC releases on “The Sims 4” are just meant to divert the gamers’ attention from the real prize – the porting of the game to the next generation gaming consoles.
In fact, some critics are now saying that there is a likelihood that Maxxis and EA have dropped plans for getting “The Sims 4” on the gaming consoles because they are now working on “The Sims 5” that shall no longer be a PC game but shall be designed specifically for the consoles.
However, this is merely a fan theory and is still subject to the confirmation or denial from either Maxxis or EA. But the logic seems palatable alright and does make sense from the perspective of a game development company.
Amid reports of the development of “The Sims 5,” there are also rumors saying that a new world is now in the works and shall be coming out soon to “The Sims 4.”
