1987 Predator is one of the most iconic sci-fi action films. John McTiernan brought together the iconic and the entertaining with the movie, and in spite of being part of a genre that doesn’t interest many cine-goers, it is one of the must-see films of all time.
Fans watched and re-watched the movie multiple times and feel that the film has a subtext that is often ignored in the greater context. One particular Reddit user has said that the 1987 movie the film contains machismo of the highest order.
Each member of the team led by Arnold Schwarzenegger dies a nasty death, and each of their death is supposedly reflective of who they were as a person. The film is a trial of masculinity and mocks it. Schwarzenegger’s Dutch didn’t boast of his masculinity and hence survives the creature.
Predator showed Schwarzenegger as the leader of the US Special Forces. The team comes under attack from an alien who loves the thrill of the chase rather than the kill itself. The success of the film gave birth to a sequel in 1990, which was later combined with the Alien franchise to create Alien vs. Predators and Alien vs. Predators: Requiem.
Shane Black is remaking The Predator. Black is known for Iron Man 3 and The Nice Guys. Fred Dekker will work on the script along with Black. The two had previously worked together for Monster Squad. Cinema Blend reported that the film would start shooting from February.
While there isn’t much information on The Predator, John Davis, the producer has confirmed that the writing is fresh and the film will give a new perspective to the remake. Davis assured fans that they would be taken by surprise when they see the remake and went to state that the fans have never seen such an entertaining remake of a franchise.
While Predator was a huge success, Predator 2 didn’t quite impress the fans and the critics. Speculations suggest that The Predator will be a reboot of the franchise. However, Shane Black denied the rumors and said that the upcoming film would maintain continuity with the previous movies and won’t be a total remake.
Black went on to inform that the single title has a justification and once the viewers watch it, they will realize why the movie was called The Predator instead of Predator 3.
Shane Black’s The Predator had already captured the attention since its inception. Now it has even amassed some great actors and looks to be one of the major films of 2018.
Benecio del Toro was initially a part of The Predator, but then he had some issues with the scheduling. That was when Boyd Holbrook took up his place. Holbrook will play the lead role, the commander of the Special Forces.
Holbrook is a great actor and is recently creating ripples with his role of Steve Murphy in Narcos. He is also known for his role in Gone Girl, Jane Got A Gun and A Walk Among the Tombstones.
Olivia Munn is also part of The Predator, and she will play the role of a scientist. Trevante Rhodes will be Holbrook’s character’s best friend, who was also an ex-marine. Rhodes captured the attention of the director after his phenomenal performance in Moonlight and Westworld.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Keegan-Michael Key will be part of The Predator as well. He will work with Holbrook and Rhodes to kill the alien. Keegan-Michael Key is known for comedies, and his best work is in Key and Peele, where he collaborated with Jordan Peele.
