The CW has announced that the upcoming fourth season of “The Originals” will premiere on March 17, 2017.

The series will take over the timeslot of its parent show, “The Vampire Diaries,” which is scheduled to wrap up its final season on March 10.

Fans initially thought that the show will have a January 2017 airing date especially since a crossover between the two shows was confirmed to happen.

But it looks like a crossover is still going to happen. Some characters of “The Vampire Diaries” will technically be making their last appearance on the spin-off series.

Latest spoilers reveal that Matt Davis’ Alaric Saltzman will be dropping by New Orleans for a possible story arc. Alaric will be appearing in the eighth episode of “The Originals,” but TV Line suggests that his guest appearance could extend for a few more episodes.

Tyler, Matt, and Stefan already made a crossover in “The Originals” in early seasons. Nina Dobrev, who played Elena Gilbert, also made a crossover but not as Elena. Instead, she paid a visit to New Orleans through a Petrova doppelganger Tatia.

There has been no word on the other cast of “The Originals” who will also make their way to Mystic Falls for one last crossover. However, the executive producer for both shows promised a memorable crossover to play out soon for the fans.

There are also reports saying that Candice King, who plays Caroline Forbes, will also make her way to “The Originals” in order to help Klaus heal from the Tunde Blade.

Wesley, who plays the younger Salvatore, said that he wishes the story to end with Stefan and Damon’s death, adding that it will give the brothers some poetic justice. He adds that he wants the show to end with Stefan and Damon taking off their daylight rings and get burnt by the sun.

Fans who ship Klaus and Caroline speculate that this will be a window of opportunity for the two to rekindle their romance. During the Season 2A finale of “The Originals.” Klaus’ love interest, Cami, was killed leaving him without a romantic partner.

The upcoming season of “The Originals” will see a time jump given the tumultuous events of the Season 3 finale. Hayley will be on a mission to save the Mikaelsons with the help of her daughter hope.

During this year’s San Diego ComicCon, the cast treated fans to a teaser for the upcoming season and it revealed that the show will jump to five years where a grown up Hope, played by Summer Fontana, will be showing powers similar to Klaus.
