“The Originals” ended its third season with a huge blow to their fans. In the action-packed Season 3 finale, Charles Michael Davis’ Marcel rose as the new leader of New Orleans putting an end to the Mikaelsons’ reign.
Fans thought that it was the last of the Original family as Marcel daggered Joseph Morgan’s Klaus using Papa Tunde’s blade, bit Daniel Gillies’ Elijah and Nataniel Buzolic’s Kol, and also poisoned Riley Voekel’s Freya.
As for Claire Holt’s Rebekah, she did return, but she was taken over by the curse and it was getting harder for her to stay in control.
Fortunately, in a desperate attempt to save her family, Freya transported herself, Elijah, and Kol in a dream world while entrusting Hayley with a mission to cure them of all their ailments. She also linked Klaus to Rebekah ensuring the Original hybrid’s safety.
Haley, played by Phoebe Tonkin, now has a lot on her plate as she must find a cure for Marcel’s werewolf bite as well as a remedy for the poison inflicted on Freya.
Speaking to TV Line, executive producer Michael Narducci says that obviously, Hayley couldn’t do it all on her own especially when she has to think about Hope’s safety too.
The showrunner teases that there’s a possibility that Hayley will find a way — either by using her own vampire power or by using a witch — to try to communicate with the Mikaelsons in the dream world.
Narducci says that Season 4 will see the vampire with a giant puzzle to figure out in order to cure everyone, and given that they’re dying from a wolf bite, it looks like someone very familiar will be her unlikely ally in this mission.
The showrunner also reveals that, while Hayley turns to someone for help, Marcel will start to figure out that Elijah, Kol, and Freya aren’t really dead as he will learn that the Strix, which is part of Elijah’s sire line, isn’t dead yet.
Fans of “The Originals” and its parent show “The Vampire Diaries” know that when an Original vampire dies, its line of sired vampires dies along with him or her.
Since Hayley is dead set on rescuing Elijah, Freya, Kol, and Rebekah, viewers are wondering who will be there to rescue Klaus.
Narducci says that it’s difficult to assume that the Mikaelsons will save him, but there’s a possibility that he might save himself, or someone outside of the family will come to his rescue.
Fans believe that it will be Paul Wesley’s Stefan who will be Klaus’ rescuer. In “The Vampire Diaries” Season 7, Klaus served as a helping hand to the younger Salvatore when he was escaping the vampire huntress Rayna.
There always has been a clamor between “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” fans for a crossover episode and producers were able to make that happen from time to time. It will be exciting if fans will be treated to the New Orleans gang and the Mystic Falls gang in one scene again this season.
Lastly, Narducci confirmed that there will be a time jump between the Season 3 finale and the Season 4 premiere.
The showrunner did not give more details how long will the time jump take, but he assures fans that it will feel normal with the viewers and that all burning questions will be answered.
It appears that “The Originals” will take a page from “The Vampire Diaries” in the latter’s usage of a time jump. When Candice King’s Caroline went in search for Klaus in “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” crossover episode, she was told that Klaus hadn’t been seen in three years.
Reports say that Season 4 will start three years into the future with Hayley searching for something to help her predicament. Also, a three-year time jump would make the most sense as fans know that Klaus cannot be found for at least that time.

The showrunner says that the werewolf has simply taken revenge for the peace that was disturbed by the return of the Original family.
It should be the vampire
