‘The Originals’ Season 4 May Become Home to Some of the Characters of ‘The Vampire Diaries,’ Says Showrunner

The fourth season of the American supernatural drama TV series “The Originals” is set to premiere on The CW in January next year even as its parent show, “The Vampire Diaries,” has started airing its eighth and final season last month.

Because “The Originals” season premiere was moved from its usual fall schedule to January and its number of episodes reduced, there have been ensuing speculations saying that the show could also end after its Season 4.

However, showrunner Julie Plec alluded recently that Season 4 is not going to be the last for “The Originals,” because if it is, they would have announced it already the way they did to “The Vampire Diaries.”

Plec also said that it is possible that “The Originals” may get renewed a couple more seasons and there is also a good chance that the TV series might become the home of some of the characters from “The Vampire Diaries” since the parent series will be ending soon.

She said that characters who make it alive after the end of “The Vampire Diaries” might eventually find their way to New Orleans and appear in “The Originals” Season 4. They might even be key to saving the Mikaelsons. Plec did not mention who it is going to be, but Damon and Stefan are almost shoo-ins.

The showrunner has been very cryptic about the fate of the spinoff TV series since she believes that “The Originals” will continue to run for another couple of years, notes the iTech Post.

However, some critics are of the opinion that the renewal of “The Originals” for at least one more season shall depend on the rating of its upcoming fourth season. If it is good, then The CW would have no problem giving the green light for Season 5 but if it does not meet expectations, then it would be very difficult to convince the network to give it a new lease on life.

Final crossover episode

With “The Vampire Diaries” on its final season, it is almost certain that there will be a crossover episode with “The Originals” early next year.

Speculations are rife that the crossover episode shall feature Caroline, played by Candice Accola King, making her way to New Orleans to help Klaus Mikaelson, played by Joseph Morgan, with his predicament.

It is also possible that the crossover episode between “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” may be used by the characters from the parent series as a backdoor entry to the spinoff show, in the same manner that the “The Originals” came to be.

Fans are getting excited about the upcoming fourth season of “The Originals” even though its number of episodes has been reduced from its average of 22 to 13, notes Game & Guide.

“The Vampire Diaries” also had its number of episodes reduced from its average of 22 to 16 and both shows would most likely end in spring because the parent series had a few months of head start.

Excitement and enthusiasm still up

Despite the push-back on the regular season premiere of “The Originals,” it still does not lessen the excitement and enthusiasm of the fans on the upcoming fourth season of their favorite supernatural drama considering that its Season 3 finale ended on a major cliffhanger and left the main protagonists, the Mikaelson family, in major dilemmas.

The Originals Season 4

The Mikaelsons were all bundled up by Marcel Gerard, played by Charles Michael Davis, during the Season 3 finale.

Klaus Mikaelson, played by Joseph Morgan, was imprisoned by Marcel by putting his life in serious danger as his surrogate son made him atone for his sins. He barely made it out alive as does the rest of his family.

Freya, played by Riley Voelkel, allowed the other Mikaelsons to escape death by taking them in some sort of an alternate dimension.
