During their absence, Klaus’ protégé, Marcel, played by Charles Michael Davis, took charge of the city. Upon their return, Klaus has come to a decision that they must take down Marcel and get back the city that once belonged to them.
While doing so, they must also protect everything that they have built from the war brewing between the vampires, werewolves, and the witches.
The first two seasons of “The Originals” had 22 episodes each and it is likely that Season 3 will have the same number of episodes as well.
“The Originals” was officially picked up by The CW on April 26, 2013, for the 2013-14 TV season. The first season was set to premiere on October 15, 2013, but on July 29, 2013, The CW announced that the series would premiere instead on October 3, following the fifth season premiere of “The Vampire Diaries” in order to attract fans of the series.
On October 10 of the same year, The CW ordered three additional scripts for the series. On November 11, 2013, the network decided to order a full season of “The Originals.”
Following her appearance on March 11, 2014 episode of “The Originals” in Season 1, Claire Holt left the main cast. However, she confirmed later on that she will be returning to the show and that her decision to momentarily leave the show was to be able to spend time with her family.
