This title is either going to be a massive hit and a great entry in the franchise, or a huge disappointment and a let-down to all those fans who’ve been waiting for this release for a long time. Nintendo obviously understand the importance in this production as well, and they seem to be putting a lot of effort into making sure that they do it right.
This is easy to see in various parts of their development in any case when we get a tiny glimpse into it, as the studio keeps trying out new things to improve the formula and introduce some freshness to it.
There might be just one problem though – the hype surrounding the game has reached such levels lately that it could be quite difficult for Nintendo to live up to that, no matter how good their product is.
This is a classic situation in the industry and something that developers try to avoid by releasing their games under more realistic schedules, and while Nintendo specifically can probably afford a bit more leisure in their approach, they should still be careful to avoid letting down all of the people waiting for their next release. There is definitely such a thing as “too long” when it comes to game development.
