‘The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes’ Explains Why Nintendo Pushed Back Release of ‘The Legend of Zelda’ on Wii U

Late last month, speculations came out that Nintendo will be further delaying the release of its action-adventure video game “The Legend of Zelda” on Wii U from next year to an uncertain date. The rumors came about when the Japanese gaming company did not specifically mention in its latest quarterly financial report the release date of the game.

Instead of putting 2016 on the release date column for “The Legend of Zelda” on its latest quarterly financial report, Nintendo put instead TBD which means To Be Decided.

In March this year, Nintendo announced that it will not be releasing “The Legend of Zelda” on Wii U this year. Accordingly, the release of the widely-anticipated “The Legend of Zelda” video game will be delayed from late this year to next year which according to Nintendo is meant to buy itself more time to make it the most complete and ultimate Zelda game.

However, when Nintendo put TBD on the release date column of “The Legend of Zelda” on Wii U in its latest quarterly financial report, it certainly had some of its fans freaking out because it could mean that the company may delay the official roll out of the game further.

Two games for 3DS and none for Wii U

After the Gamescom 2015 held at Cologne, Germany last week, it now becomes clear why Nintendo pushed back the release of “The Legend of Zelda” on Wii U.

Nintendo launched “The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes” at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2015 and subsequently showcased the game’s playable demo at Gamescom 2015. The game will be officially released to the Nintendo 3DS family of systems on October 23, details Dispatch Times.

“The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes” allows up to three players to team up locally, via Download Play with one game card or online using a wireless Internet connection to cooperatively explore inventive dungeons and battle bosses.

Fans of the “The Legend of Zelda” on Wii U were extremely dismayed when the game was not mentioned at all at the E3 and in its stead were “The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes” and the remake of “The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past” both on 3DS.

Better than ‘The Legend of Zelda’ on Wii U

Some of the avid gamers of the Zelda game believes that “The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes” is way better than “The Legend of Zelda” on Wii U if the gameplay trailers of the two games are compared.

Nintendo showcased the gameplay trailer of “The Legend of Zelda” on Wii U at the E3 2014 while the playable demo of “The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes” on 3DS was showcased at the E3 2015 and also at the just-concluded Gamescom 2015.

According to Nathanial Rumphol-Janc of Zelda Informer, the Wii U game looks pathetic compared to the upcoming Zelda game on 3DS because it did not offer a clear view of what to expect from Link’s full-fledged console quest. It also did not prove anything about how the title would play, details Design & Trend.

With the emergence of the new generation Nintendo 3DS gaming console, the sales of Nintendo’s Wii U gaming platform has considerably slipped. Obviously, the 3DS is the Japanese gaming company’s way of keeping up with the next generation gaming consoles of Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One.

Reports have it that Nintendo is planning to phase out the Wii U very soon because it has outlived its trend. But to give the gaming console its perfect swan song, Nintendo is planning to roll out the action-adventure game “The Legend of Zelda” on the Wii U.

However, given the huge potentials and the wide anticipation on “The Legend of Zelda” by gamers, many are saying that the upcoming video game may actually perk up the sales of Wii U and thus saved the console from being phased out soon enough.

According to sources privy to Nintendo, the TBD in the release date column across “The Legend of Zelda” on Wii U means absolutely nothing.
